Bangladesh Premier League:Record Holder batsman Lara named Chittagong Kings brand ambassador


Former West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara has been named brand ambassador of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Chittagong Kings.Lara has signed a three-year contract with Kings and is expected in Dhaka in November to complete formalities.

The West Indies batting legend will be part of the Chittagong franchise’s delegation at the auction December 7, CMC reports.



“I am excited and honoured to announce that Brian Lara has agreed to join us as the brand ambassador of the Chittagong Kings,” Sameer Quader Chowdhury, the franchise’s owner, told ESPNcricinfo.

“He will also be with us throughout the BPL campaign, which starts on January 17.

Before the tournament starts, he will be present for our corporate dealings and marketing activities. Apart from this, he will do social work and be involved in team’s activities and selection.”

During the inaugural season of the BPL, former Australia players Michael Bevan and Dean Jones were part of the Chittagong Kings, as batting coach and technical director respectively.

Live Streaming of Opening Ceremony of Bangladesh Premier League T20


The First Edition of  Bangladesh Premier League 2012 (BPL),  will commence on the 9th of February with the final to be played on the 29th of February.The official Match will Start from 10 of February 2012 but Opening Ceremony will go on Air on 9th of February.
The competition will start with a double round robin group stage, in which each of the 6 teams will play against every other team twice. These matches will followed by two semi-finals and a final.

The Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Md Zillur Rahman will announce the launch of the first edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20.
The President will inaugurate the tournament during the opening ceremony at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday, 09 February.

“The duration of the opening ceremony will be nearly three hours and I hope everyone will enjoy it. The silver screen stars and singers from India and Bangladesh will perform in the show. There will also be a segment dedicated to the International Mother Language Day,” informed Gazi Ashraf Hossain, chairman of the BPL governing body, yesterday
For BPL opening ceremony, Bipasha Basu (India), Mallika Arora Khan (India), Ritu Parna Sen Gupta (India), Nipa and Sibli duet (Bangladesh), Shakib Khan (Bangladesh) and Apu Bishash (Bangladesh) are likely to be present.

Shaan (India), Bappy Leheri (India), Ayub Bacchu (Bangladesh), Mila (Bangladesh), and Miles (Bangladesh) are the musicians confirmed to take part.

Bangladesh Premier League 2012: List of the Players with Team


The auction for the six franchises of the Bangladesh Premier League has been completed with a total of $6.49 million spent, and none of the teams fetching much more than their base price of $1 million. Chittagong was the most expensive franchise at $1.2 million and Barisal the least at $1.01 million. The auction, held in Dhaka, was a low-key event after the sudden demise of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief Manzur Ahmed in the morning. The franchises have been bought for a six-year period. However the Auction for the international and national player has also been already finished and now the teams had come with the list of player and are preparing for the match. Shahid Afridi most expensive player in Bangladesh Premier League


Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has become the most expensive player in the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League auction. Dhaka Gladiators bid US $700,000 for the leg-spinning all-rounder, who was the target of all six teams competing in the new competition.
Afridi, however, will only be available for the final two days of the opening BPL campaign as he will be on national team duty against England in the United Arab Emirates. "Shahid Afridi was bought for $700,000 dollars, the highest in the BPL auction, by our team Dhaka Gladiators," team spokesman Minhaz Khan told Agence France-Presse.

Hard hitting West Indies batsman Chris Gayle was sold to Barisal Burners for $551,100 and Marlon Samuels to Duronto Rajshahi for $360,000. according to live telecast by private Channel 9 Television.
West Indian Kieron Pollard was sold to Dhaka Gladiators for $300,000 and Bangladeshi allrounder Nasir Hossain for $200,000 to Khulna.
Ex-Pakistani captain Shoaib Malik and West Indies batsman Dwayne Bravo each landed $150,000.
Other notable names include Muttiah Muralitharan ($100,000 to Chittagong Kings), Brad Hodge ($140,000 to Barisal Burners) and Sanath Jayasuria ($110,000 to Khulna Royal Bengals).
A total of 111 overseas players and 80 local cricketers were put on auction with teams given a maximum budget of $2million and able to buy no more than eight overseas players. Seventeen foreign players were put on auction with a base price of $100,000 including Sri Lankan greats Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas, New Zealander Scott Styris and Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor. Stuart MacGill, the former Australia leg-spinner, was one of 36 players auctioned with a base price of $50,000. He was sold to Dhaka at the base price.

Bangladesh internationals Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Ashraful, Shahriar Nafees and Alok Kapali had been selected as icon players for six franchises and were excluded from auction.
Game On, an Indian company, bought the rights of the first six editions of BPL for around $44 million dollars last year. Six franchises were bought by Bangladeshi companies with a minimum price of one million dollars.

2012 Bangladesh Premier League to start from February 9


The 2012 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season will be the first season of the Bangladesh Premier League. The season will commence on the 9th of February with the final to be played on the 29th of February.
The competition will start with a double round robin group stage, in which each of the 6 teams will play against every other team twice. These matches will followed by two semi-finals and a final
The highest wicket taker will win the purple cap for being the top wicket-taking bowler while the highest run scorer will win the orange cap for leading run-scorer in the tournament. Best young player will be awarded the best under-19 player award and the special award for Fair Play will be won by the team who will play most fairly throughout the tournament.

Matches will be held in Dhaka and Chittagong with a total of six franchises taking part. The franchises will represent Dhaka,BarisalChittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna divisions. The franchise auction was held on January 10 and the player was taken place on 18 and 19 january. Each franchise will have to spend between US$2 million and US$5 million at the player auction.
On 21 December, the event Management Company bought the tournament title for six years for 44.33 million dollars, or at 354 crores.
Mirpur Stadium 
Bangladesh Premier league opening ceremony will be arranged in world class standard. For this, a number of Indian companies submitted their proposals. This includes one of the Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey.
The opening ceremony will be for 2 and half hour. The culture and history of freedom fighting of Bangladesh will be display in this show. For BPL opening ceremony, popular bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor,Deepika Padukone are likely to be present. The popular singers Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan will also arrive Dhaka in that time for BPL.
Excitement regarding Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)start to spread in Bangladesh. The news spread around already that Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif will be involved with this tournament.
According to tournament organizing committee, India's most eye-catching singer Shreya Ghoshal will perform in the tournament kick off show.
