Pink Floyd to unite for London Olympics?

Rock band Pink Floyd is likely to get back together to perform at London 2012 Olympics. Pink Floyd was an English rock band that achieved worldwide success with their progressive and psychedelic rock music. Their work is marked by the use of philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative album art, and elaborate live shows. Pink Floyd is one of the most commercially successful and influential rock music groups of all time. The band originally consisted of students Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright, and Syd Barrett. Founded in 1965, the band first became popular playing in London's underground music scene in the late 1960s and some band members keep leaving and joining the band and again its time to reunite. Guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined Pink Floyd as its fifth member in December 1967, several months prior to Barrett's departure from the group due to his deteriorating mental health. Wright left the group in 1979, and Waters in 1985, but Gilmour and Mason (subsequently rejoined by Wright) continued the existence of band and maintain the popularity.
"It's long been made clear it would take something very special to get Pink Floyd back together again and it doesn't get any bigger than the Olympics," express.co.uk quoted an insider as saying.

"Like Sir Paul [McCartney, who is tipped to open the event], they have been a major part of the nation's culture over the past 40 years and it will be very fitting that they're involved when London is on show to the world. It's hoped everything can be confirmed in the coming weeks," the insider added.

The rock band consisting of Roger Waters, Nick Mason and David Gilmour last put their differences aside to play charity gig Live 8 in 2005.
