PCB asks for proposals for creating own IPL-type Twenty20 league

The Pakistan Cricket Board has invited proposals from a number of companies to set up a Twenty20 league in the country. As many as eight companies, including Ten Sports, Nimbus and Geo TV, have already made their proposals to the PCB, while another three are expected to do so this week.
 "The purpose of the sessions was to hear the ideas and concepts and each one came with in-depth studies," The Daily Times quoted a PCB spokesman, as saying.
The PCB has made it clear that they don't intend to organize a tournament similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) or the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

 "We have no fixed ideas, and are being open minded, but one thing we know is that we do not want a clone of the IPL or BPL. Our product won't resemble the conventional type of league and even the name won't be the Pakistan Premier League (PPL)," the spokesman added.
The PCB would weigh all the proposals once the presentation process ends next week.

The board is believed to want to hold the tournament in October, but security concerns could force them to adjust their dates. No international cricket has been played in Pakistan since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009.
The leeway of international players participating in the contest would depend largely on the level of security provided for the tournament.

On same note Former captain Shoaib Malik has said if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) succeeds in launching its own Twenty20 Premier League, the benefits will be manifold, including revival of international cricket in the country. "The other benefits would include financial benefits for the domestic players and the chance for youngsters to play alongside international players and learn from their experience," Malik said.
