After the success of Bryan Adams´ concert in Kathmandu, JPR Events is coming up with a friendly football match featuring international football superstars.

Former Dutch footballer Regi Blinker is in the capital to promote the event, according to JPR Events which organized Adams´ concert in February earlier this year.

“We are organizing the event to promote football in Nepal,” said Shital Pratap Singh, director of JPR Events.

Other football legends  who have confirmed their participation according to the organizers are Germany´s ex-goalkeeper Oliver Khan, former Manchester United and Dutch custodian Edvin Van Der Sarr and another former Dutch international Patrick Kluivert.

Forty-two-year-old Blinker, who played for Dutch club Feyenoord and the Scottish side Celtic before retiring in 2004 from the Dutch international team, will also take part in the friendly scheduled for November 4, the organizers said during a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday.

“We will hold the tournament soon after Tihar on November 4. Talks are on to bring France legend Zinedine Zidane and Brazillian superstar Ronaldo as well as former Dutch great Ruud Gullit.”

Singh said that JPR Events have signed a written contract with Blinker but declined to comment on the financial dealing.

“We have signed a contract with Blinker and now it is his responsibility to bring 11 football legends to play a friendly against a Nepali team. Our agreement is based on mutual understanding and trust,” added Singh.

At a press meet, Regi Blinker, who will be bringing the footballers to Kathmandu, said they are all part of a foundation working for charity. The proceeds from the event will go to the foundation they work for.
Blinker runs a lifestyle magazine in Germany—”Life after Football”. His career in football picked up with Feyenoord in 1986 and he also represented the Dutch national team for a year in 1993-1994. Among the notable teammates he had in his career are Swede Henrik Larsson while playing for Celtic Rangers in 1997-2000, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who captained the Dutch national side, with the same team and Ruud Gullit for Holland.
After learning that the English League is closely followed in this part of the world, Blinker said he would try his best to bring English footballers as well.
Singh also said that they are seeking support from All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).
“We are in touch with the ANFA officials but the talks have not concluded. We believe that the international friendly will be beneficial for Nepali football and we are looking for a positive response from ANFA,” said Singh.
