ACC Twenty20 Cup 2013: Afghanistan Upset Nepal to be champion

Nepal was handed down a seven wicket defeat by Afghanistan in the final match of the ACC T20 Cup held at Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Wednesday.
Afghanistan met the target of 136 runs set by Nepal with 13 balls to spare. Gulbadin Naib scored highest 43 runs while Mohammad Nabi scored 38 runs and Karim Sadiq 32 runs for the winning side. Shakti Gauchan and Paras Khadka took one wicket each for Nepal. While one afghani batsman was runout.
Afghanistan chose to field first after winning the toss. Nepali captain Parash Khadka made half century of 40 balls while Binod Bhandari scored 32(40) runs and Sarad Vesawkar 20 runs in their first inning. Gulbadin Naib took two wickets for Afghanistan. It was the 71-run third wicket partenership between captain Khadka and Binod Bhadari that actually brought the Nepali innings back on track.
Nepal had advanced to the final after defeating the UAE by six wickets while Afghanistan thrashed Hong Kong by seven wickets in the semifinal match held at the same venue on Tuesday.


Meanwhile, the UAE beat Hong Kong by 32 runs to win the third place play-off held at Pulchowk Engineering Cricket Ground earlier today.
Youth and Sports Minister Ram Kumar Shrestha distributed the trophies to the winning teams amidst a function at the TU Ground after the match. Nepali skipper Khadka was adjudged man of the series. Gulbadin Naib's Man of the Match While Hong Kong batsman Waqas Barkat was adjudged best batsman of the Tournament for his 280 runs.

Similarly, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has also announced Rs. 50,000 to each of Nepali team members. Other organisations have also provided cash reward to the team.
Nepal, Afghanistan, Hong Kong and the UAE have already qualified to the World T20 Qualifiers going to be held in November in the UAE. Raees Ahmadzai, who's won this event twice as a player is now the coach, and says" "Our players loved playing in front of such a big crowd, it was a mature performance especially by the young players. Nepal were a good side and can improve if they play against A Teams of the top countries."
