Indian women beat Pakistan to lift ACC women’s T20 Asia Cup

The Indian women's cricket team lifted the inaugural Asian Cricket Council's Twenty20 Asia Cup after beating arch-rivals Pakistan by 18 runs in a low-scoring final at Guangzhou, china.
India's decision to bat first seemed to have backfired when the team folded for 81 but the bowlers did a splendid job to dismiss Pakistan to 63 in 19.1 overs. What was particularly impressive about the Indian bowlers was their discipline, giving away just a couple of wides from 19.1 overs, which they took to bowl out their opponents.

"So happy for the girls even though I'm disappointed not to have played because of my ankle. Winning this Asia Cup is a great achievement and what's been special is how our team has become like a family over the years, everyone contributes and plays for each other," said an elated skipper Mithali Raj, who could not be a part of the team in final.
Electing to bat first, Indian women did not have a good beginning as they lost both their openers within the first couple of overs. Anuja Patil was the first one to be shown the way to the pavillion by Sadia Yousuf. Sulakshana Naik soon followed suit to leave India tottering at two for four. Poonam Raut (25) and stand-in skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (20) tried to resurrect the Indian innings. The duo mixed caution with aggression to raise 32 runs for the third wicket before Poonam fall prey to tweaker Bismah Maroof.

With Amita Sharma returning to the dugout in a hurry, Harmanpreet joined hands with Reema Malhotra (18) to take the Indian innings ahead. However, the two couldn't do much as skipper was made to pay for her impetuosity by leg-spinner Sana Mir.
Indian tail couldn't offer much with the bat as it was bundled out for just 81. Mona Meshram was the last casualty, playing the last ball of the innings straight down to long on.
Pakistan, after an initial jolt in the form of Qanita Jalil (2), tried to build their innings on the back of Bismah Maroof (18) and skipper Sana Mir's (11) stand of 27 runs.
But with both the batters falling within a span of one over things never looked the same for Pakistan as they kept on losing the wickets on regular intervals.
The team lost nine wickets for the addition of just 32 runs to hand India a comfortable 18-run win.

ACC Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup: Nepali women Cricket team leaves for China

Nepal will look to play competitive cricket against the likes of Test playing nations when the ACC Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup begins from October 24 in Guangzhou‚ China. Nepal Cricket team leaves for china today.
Nepal is drawn in Group ‘B’ with Test nations Sri Lanka‚ Bangladesh and hosts China where one loss could knock them out. The Group ‘A’ features India‚ Pakistan‚ Thailand and Hong Kong. The senior team is playing in their first international event 20 months after finishing fourth in 2011 ACC Twenty20 Championship in Kuwait.
After Kuwait event‚ the Nepali women have so far played two national-level events — sixth National Games that ended in March and recently concluded Women’s National Twenty20. Since the team only completed 13-day training before leaving for China today‚ Nepal’s coach Samson Jung Thapa has no ambitious target.

“We will try to give our best. We are playing against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka‚ while as hosts China will get a lot of advantage. The Asia Cup is a good opportunity to prove ourselves‚” said Thapa. The coach knew his team will have to come with an upset result to fancy any chance of progressing to the semi-finals.
“Every match is going to be final for us. There is no point of taking China lightly because they are the ACC Women’s Twenty20 Championship finalists. We have to come with an upset win to reach the semi-finals‚” he added. China finished second after losing to Hong Kong in ACC Twenty20 Championship where Nepal had lost to Thailand in the third place playoff.
The coach is expecting a lot from his allrounders. “Girls like Roshani (Bohora)‚ Nary (Thapa)‚ Neera (Rajopadhyaya)‚ Sarita (Rana Magar)‚ Rubina (Chhettri) and Sita (Rana Magar) can bat well and do better with bowling. If they play to their potential‚ anything is possible‚” he added.
Neera — who was the part of the team that finished runners-up in the ACC Women’s Tournament in 2007 in Malaysia — was excited. “Asia Cup is a big opportunity for us as we are playing against some tough teams in the world. We are ready to fight against them‚” Neera said.
“We let them play nine matches here (TU grounds) in the centre wicket which will help a little bit. The training has also been better. We can expect a better display from them‚” said assistant coach.
