Dyke says `summer` Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup likely to be moved to winter

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has said that a summer World Cup in Qatar in 2022 would be impossible and thinks the tournament is likely to move to winter because of the heat, even as Qatar''s World Cup organising committee says it is ready to host the tournament in summer.

According to the BBC, Dyke pointed out that even if all the stadia are air-conditioned, it would be impossible for the fans and his position was that it could not be played in the summer. Meanwhile, Qatar''s organising committee said that they were ready to host the tournament in summer or winter and a decision to alter the dates of the 2022 FIFA World Cup would not affect their infrastructure planning, the report said. Richard Scudamore, the Premier League chief executive, had expressed in July that switching the Qatar World Cup to winter would cause chaos for football leagues around the world, the report added.

FIFA Confederation Cup 2013 Final Live Stream : Watch Brazil Vs Spain Live Stream

European giant Spain and South American giant Brazil are facing each other in the Final of FIFA Confederation Cup 2013. The final game in the Confederations Cup will be between Spain, the best team in the world, against Brazil, the best in history, in the Maracana, unquestionably one of the most evocative soccer stadiums on earth.

Host Brazil had reached the final Beating another South American Uruguay after Brazil’s winning goal came very late, from the head of Paulinho following a corner kick in the final moments. While Spain beat their European counter parth in dudden Death. The Selecao will do so with the knowledge that they now have nothing to lose and everything to gain from the final, having already far exceeded initial pre-tournament expectations.

"We achieved our goal of getting to the final and giving the players a sense of unity and the fans an idea that we have a good team that can get to the final of the World Cup,"Scolari said of his team's performance on Friday, via BBC.

Having entered the competition under a cloud, Brazil believes in their national side once more. Despite all the problems seen off the pitch, the yellow shirt has become a symbol of joy for the people once more.

Had they been able to choose their opponents, though, it is unlikely they would have ever chosen to face the might of Spain.

La Roja have been an all-conquering force in World Football for the past five years, with the 2009 Confederations Cup the one blot on their copybook in that time. Coincidentally, it was Brazil who clinched a third title on that occasion.

The motivation is there, then, for the team that has won virtually everything in the game. For many of the Spanish side, the Confederations Cup is the only trophy missing from their extensive collection.

As a fixture, pitting the hosts against the favourites, it could not get any bigger, and many will hope for a rematch at the same stage next Summer.

Among those excited by the prospect is Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who told reporters "The whole world wanted to see a Brazil-Spain final, and in the end the two teams who are there are the ones who deserve it.

"It's basically a curtain-raiser for the World Cup (next year), and everyone who loves football will agree that it should be a great match" he said, via Sambafoot.

The fixture should be a great clash for the neutral, as both sides seek to prove their point ahead of World Cup 2014. The stage is set, and now one of the two sides must lay down a marker ahead of next Summer's main event. Both teams, though, will be among the forerunners next year.

FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier: Japan became the first to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup

Japan became the first side to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday as Keisuke Honda’s stoppage-time penalty secured Alberto Zaccheroni’s side a dramatic, last-gasp 1-1 draw with Australia at Saitama Stadium.
The point means the Japanese cannot finish any lower than second in Group B of the final round of Asia’s qualifying tournament for next year’s event, securing one of the automatic berths in the finals and joining hosts Brazil in the draw in December.Tommy Oar looked to have earned the Australians a surprise win when, with eight minutes to go, his miss-hit cross caught out Eiji Kawashima to put the Socceroos in front, but Honda’s late spot-kick restored parity and takes Japan to a fifth straight FIFA World Cup.
Honda returned to the Japanese line-up after missing the 2-1 loss against Jordan due to injury while Lucas Neill and Sasa Ognanovski resumed their partnership at the heart of the Australian defence after both were absent from the 2-2 draw with Oman in March.
Japan went into the game as favourites and, not surprisingly, the home side had the better of the opening exchanges, with Yasuhito Endo sending his left footed effort just over the bar while Shinji Kagawa forced a fine save out of Mark Schwarzer from close range.
Australia’s best chance of the first half fell to Robbie Kruse, but the Bundesliga-based midfielder was denied by the on-rushing Kawashima after Tim Cahill’s ball had sprung the Japanese offside trap.
The Japanese kept Holger Osieck’s side pinned back throughout the second half as the home side sought the goal that would give them the breathing space they needed to ensure their place in Brazil.
Japan Team Qualify for FIFA 2014 World Cup
Honda was off target with his effort after good work down the left by Kagawa in the 54th minute while, five minutes later, the Manchester United midfielder’s attempt to chip Schwarzer beat the Fulham goalkeeper only to hit clip the top of the crossbar. The CSKA Moscow man twice fired off free kicks that caused few problems with Schwarzer while Yuto Nagatomo forced a fine save out of the 40-year-old Australian with just 10 minutes remaining.
Two minutes later, and against the run of play, the Australians went in front. Oar went down the left before lofting in a cross that evaded everyone – including Kawashima – and nestled in the bottom corner of the goal.
Oar’s strike silenced the capacity crowd at Saitama and, as time was running out, Japan’s hopes of reaching the FIFA World Cup looked to be shifting towards their upcoming meeting with Iraq in Doha next week.
But, with the game edging towards the finale, referee Nawaf Shukralla pointed to the spot after judging the ball had hit Matt McKay’s arm and Honda stepped up to thump his shot straight down the middle as Schwarzer dived to his left, sealing qualification for Japan.

2022 World Cup could be played in winter - FIFA

Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke on Saturday confirmed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar could be moved to the winter if research shows holding the tournament in the region's intense summer heat would be dangerous for players.
Since being awarded the right to host the event, Qatar's tournament organisers have had to deal with a barrage of questions about the suitability of staging the World Cup in searing June and July temperatures, which can reach up to 50C.
Fifa, the game's world governing body, had previously suggested that Qatar would have to make the request to move the tournament. But speaking at the International Football Association Board meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, Valcke became the first senior Fifa official to admit that the event could be moved if his organisation received strong medical advice that it needed to do so.

"The Fifa ExCo has the power to make decisions and if at the Fifa ExCo this issue starts to be a real point for discussion then why not, and then again maybe the Fifa ExCo will say based on medical reports or whatever we really have to look at playing the World Cup not in summer, but in winter," he said.

"I am not saying that the case is closed, but what I'm saying is as long as we have not fixed the international calendar all alternatives are open."

UEFA president Michel Platini has reiterated his call to move the Qatar tournament to winter and Valcke said the fact the international calendar had not been fixed beyond 2018 made moving the 2022 finals possible.

"Qatar has to tell us, 'we want to move the World Cup from summer to winter'," Valcke said.
"I can tell you there is no working group within Fifa thinking and working on what it means to move the World Cup from summer to winter for the time being.

"The international calendar has been agreed for 2015-2018, meaning that we kept open all potential for period 2019 to 2022. We have time.

"We in Fifa have just said we are waiting for you (Qatar) to officially ask Fifa to look at the potential to move the World Cup from summer to winter - and that has not happened yet."

Valcke also said that it would need the agreement of all of football, and so far the Premier League have been fiercely opposed to any interruption of the domestic season.

"Qatar is perfectly aware and 2014 is not the deadline. It can be even in 2015," Valcke added.
"The most important thing is to make sure work with all stakeholders and make sure there is full agreement with all parties, leagues, clubs, and we would have to find eight weeks in the mid-season to play the World Cup."

FIFA to Use Goal Line Technology in FIFA 2014 World Cup

After a successful implementation of Goal-Line Technology (GLT) at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in December 2012, FIFA has decided to use Goal Line Technology at the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

The aim is to use GLT in order to support the match officials and to install a system in all stadiums, pending the successful installation, and pre-match referee tests.

With different technologies on the market, FIFA has also launched a tender, setting out the technical requirements for the two forthcoming competitions in Brazil.

The two GLT providers already licensed under FIFA’s Quality Programme for GLT, and other GLT providers currently in the licensing process (that must have passed all relevant tests as of today) are invited to submit tenders.
