Rio Olympics Live:IOC awards TV rights for 2016 Rio Olympics to STAR India

Despite India serving a ban from the Olympic fold, the International Olympic Committee has awarded broadcast rights of several important multi-sporting events, including 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, for seven South Asian countries to an Indian channel.

'STAR India' has been handed the broadcast rights for the XXII Olympic Winter Games (2014) in Sochi, Russia; the Games of the XXXI Olympiad (2016) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games (2014) in Nanjing, China.

"STAR India acquired the rights to all media platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription television, internet and mobile, in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. STAR India will work to ensure that the broadest possible audience has access to broadcasts of the Olympic Games," the IOC said in a statement on its website.

IOC President Jacques Rogge welcomed the granting of the broadcast rights to STAR India. "We welcome the opportunity to work with STAR India for the upcoming editions of the Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games. We are confident they will do a great job providing the best possible broadcast coverage of the Games, on a variety of platforms, to the largest possible audience in the seven different countries."

IOC Finance Commission Chairman Richard Carrion, who led the negotiations, said, "Traditionally IOC has negotiated broadcast rights on a pan-Asian basis; however, the media landscape is changing and we have adapted our approach recently by negotiating directly in certain markets. We are pleased to have reached this agreement directly with STAR India."

Nitin Kukreja, Head of Sport Business for STAR India, said, "The Olympic Games remain the pinnacle of sporting achievement where the world's best in various disciplines face off for the title of Olympic champion. Indian athletes have also performed admirably over the last few editions, which is evident in the medal-winning performances that we have come to admire. We value our partnership with the IOC and feel that this spectacular extravaganza can be taken to even greater heights in India on both television as well as on digital platforms."

FIFA Confederation Cup 2013 Final Live Stream : Watch Brazil Vs Spain Live Stream

European giant Spain and South American giant Brazil are facing each other in the Final of FIFA Confederation Cup 2013. The final game in the Confederations Cup will be between Spain, the best team in the world, against Brazil, the best in history, in the Maracana, unquestionably one of the most evocative soccer stadiums on earth.

Host Brazil had reached the final Beating another South American Uruguay after Brazil’s winning goal came very late, from the head of Paulinho following a corner kick in the final moments. While Spain beat their European counter parth in dudden Death. The Selecao will do so with the knowledge that they now have nothing to lose and everything to gain from the final, having already far exceeded initial pre-tournament expectations.

"We achieved our goal of getting to the final and giving the players a sense of unity and the fans an idea that we have a good team that can get to the final of the World Cup,"Scolari said of his team's performance on Friday, via BBC.

Having entered the competition under a cloud, Brazil believes in their national side once more. Despite all the problems seen off the pitch, the yellow shirt has become a symbol of joy for the people once more.

Had they been able to choose their opponents, though, it is unlikely they would have ever chosen to face the might of Spain.

La Roja have been an all-conquering force in World Football for the past five years, with the 2009 Confederations Cup the one blot on their copybook in that time. Coincidentally, it was Brazil who clinched a third title on that occasion.

The motivation is there, then, for the team that has won virtually everything in the game. For many of the Spanish side, the Confederations Cup is the only trophy missing from their extensive collection.

As a fixture, pitting the hosts against the favourites, it could not get any bigger, and many will hope for a rematch at the same stage next Summer.

Among those excited by the prospect is Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who told reporters "The whole world wanted to see a Brazil-Spain final, and in the end the two teams who are there are the ones who deserve it.

"It's basically a curtain-raiser for the World Cup (next year), and everyone who loves football will agree that it should be a great match" he said, via Sambafoot.

The fixture should be a great clash for the neutral, as both sides seek to prove their point ahead of World Cup 2014. The stage is set, and now one of the two sides must lay down a marker ahead of next Summer's main event. Both teams, though, will be among the forerunners next year.

Brazilian goalkeeper gets 22-year jail term for killing girlfriend

Former Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend and sentenced to more than 22 years in prison on Friday.

In a trial that made front-page headlines across Brazil, the jury of five women and two men in Minas Gerais found Bruno guilty of ordering the killing of model Eliza Samudio, whose body has never been found amid allegations that she was dismembered and her remains were fed to dogs.Bruno also was convicted of holding hostage their young son.
Bruno

Defense lawyers told local media they already expected a conviction but would appeal.

The goalkeeper had already been convicted of kidnapping Samudio and forcing her to terminate her pregnancy. He was serving a prison sentence of four years and six months in that case. After a court dispute, Samudio's mother was named the child's guardian.

"I expected more," the model's mother, Eliza Silva Samudio, told local media after Friday's sentence. "They made it easy on him."

The judge said Bruno's sentence was reduced because of his confession. According to Brazilian law, he could be allowed some freedom in about three or four years, depending on his behavior in prison. No one can serve more than 30 years in prison in Brazil.

The 28-year-old Bruno was captain of the Flamengo team that won the Brazilian league title in 2009, and was touted to move to European football and even contend for a spot in the Brazil national team.
Eliza Samudio
"These crimes received a lot of attention not only because one of the defendants was a famous football player, but also because of the plot that they involved, and because of the mystery of where the victim's remains were hidden," said the sentence read by judge Marixa Fabiane Lopes Rodrigues.

Bruno's ex-wife, Dayanne Rodrigues, was found not guilty of Samudio's kidnapping because the jury said she acted under pressure from Bruno and others involved in the crimes. Last year, one of Bruno's friends and another ex-girlfriend were found guilty of their involvement.

Bruno on Thursday acknowledged for the first time that he knew about Samudio's death but denied ordering her killing. Although he said he felt guilty for her death and that he benefited from it, he blamed a friend for killing the 25-year-old model.

In 2009, with Bruno in his prime as a player, Samudio made the first allegations to police that she was pregnant to him, and that the goalkeeper and others kidnapped her and tried to force her to terminate the pregnancy.

She refused, and the child — who was now 3 and is also named Bruno — was born healthy. But the model disappeared soon afterward in June 2010, and in December of that year Bruno was found guilty of Samudio's initial accusations.

Investigators said at the time that the player was behind a scheme that lured the model from Rio de Janeiro to a ranch in the neighboring state of Minas Gerais with the promise that he would recognize the child as his and give her an apartment. There she allegedly was held against her will by Bruno's accomplices, killed, and her remains fed to dogs who roamed the property.

Manchester City eyeing for Brazilian hot property Neymar

Manchester City, the club with the biggest spending power in the Barclays Premier League, have made the first move in the race to sign Brazilian star Neymar.
City’s top two executives Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain are said to have held initial talks with Neymar’s family and his representatives in a box at Wembley on the night of England’s friendly against Brazil on February 6.
Chief executive Soriano and director of football Begiristain were guests of the FA in the VIP Wembley suite for the 150th anniversary match.
But the pair went to the trouble of visiting the IMG hospitality box - located on the other side of the stadium - in order to make contact with the Neymar camp and were spotted during their half-circuit of the corporate areas.
Neymar da Silva

Sports management giants IMG are understood to have been entertaining Neymar’s father Neymar da Silva and the £55m-rated player’s marketing team from IMX Talent. The company is a joint venture with IMG to exploit sports business opportunities in Brazil.
They took control of Neymar’s off-field image rights and career guidance last July. He is under contract at Brazilian side Santos until the 2014 World Cup which takes place in Brazil
The 21-year-old striker is expected to make his inevitable big-money move to Europe that summer, after a tournament which could dramatically increase his value.
There was much hype surrounding Neymar’s appearance in this country earlier this month, but despite playing 90 minutes at Wembley the youngster failed to impress as England deservedly won the friendly 2-1.
Manchester City FC Logo

That has not deterred top clubs like Barcelona from wanting to sign him and the Spanish giants are seen as one of the favourites for his signature.
But Abu Dhabi-owned City can afford to offer Neymar a similar package or better and have put down the first marker.
It also might be relevant that Spanish compatriots Soriano and Begiristain used to work together at Barcelona - reported to be the preferred choice of Neymar senior for his son - and could persuade the family to make the move to Manchester instead.
