Red Bull Driver Webber to quit Formula One at end of 2013

Mark Webber will leave champions Red Bull and Formula One at the end of the season to join Porsche's new Le Mans sportscar programme, the Australian driver announced on Thursday.
"I'm very much looking forward to this new challenge after my time in Formula One. I can hardly wait to pilot one of the fastest sports cars in the world," he said on his website (www.markwebber.com).

Red Bull Driver Mark Webber

Porsche said he had signed a multi-year contract. Red Bull said a decision on his replacement would not be made until later in the season. The oldest driver on the starting grid, who will be 38 next year and is in his 12th season, Webber has yet to win a race in 2013 but has a good chance to rectify that at this weekend's British Grand Prix.

The straight-talking Australian - who drives a Porsche for private use - has won two of the last three races at Silverstone, including last year's, and has finished on the podium at what amounts to a home race every year since 2009.
He has won nine grands prix, all for Red Bull, since his debut with Minardi in 2002 but has been eclipsed in the championship by German team mate Sebastian Vettel who is chasing a fourth successive title.Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 world champion with Ferrari, has been strongly tipped to take Webber's place.

That move would replace one of the sport's most outspoken drivers with the most taciturn and, at 33, second oldest after Webber.

Olympic boxers to fight without head guards

Olympic boxers will fight without head guards in a pro-style scoring system starting this year after several significant rule changes by the sport's international governing body.
The International Boxing Association (AIBA) unveiled several rule amendments this week, but the two biggest changes will move the amateur sport much closer to the professional version. The rejection of headgear and the introduction of 10-point scoring could make the sport once known as amateur boxing more appealing to young boxers seeking professional careers.
Male boxers at the world championships in October and the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 won't wear the protective head guards adopted before the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Although the move might seem counterintuitive in preventing brain injuries, the chairman of AIBA's medical commission, Charles Butler, cites numerous medical studies that suggest fighting without head guards will decrease concussions.

"There's no evidence protective gear shows a reduction in incidence of concussion," Butler said. "In 1982, when the American Medical Association moved to ban boxing, everybody panicked and put headgear on the boxers, but nobody ever looked to see what the headgear did."
AIBA's executive committee unanimously voted to add head guards to amateur competition in April 1984, and they stayed in place through eight straight Olympics.
But the headgear has long been criticized for diffusing the impact of a blow and allowing fighters to continue sustaining more head shots for a longer stretch of time. The gear also offers no protection to the chin, where many knockout blows land in boxing, while the bulky sides of the device impede fighters' peripheral vision, preventing them from seeing every head blow.
The head guard ban will only affect male boxers at the top levels of AIBA competition, meaning women's boxers and younger fighters will still wear the gear.
The amateur sport also is moving to a pro-style, 10-point scoring system, discarding the latest version of the much-criticized computer punch-count systems implemented after the Seoul Olympics in 1988. Each fight will be scored by five ringside judges with the traditional 10-9 or 10-8 rounds familiar to fans of professional boxing.
The sport moved to a punch-counting system after the infamously bizarre results in Seoul, including Roy Jones Jr.'s inexplicable loss. But the computer system has been highly subjective and arcane, often turning the sport into a sparring session that emphasizes punch volume over technique and ring generalship. North American boxers have been particularly critical of the computerized scoring, with many top U.S. and Mexican prospects declining even to participate in amateur boxing.
The traditional scoring system also should indirectly improve fighters' safety, according to Butler. Since body shots and combinations notoriously scored few points in the computerized punch-count system, fighters have long placed a premium on a high volume of head shots, since an opponent's neck snapping back is the surest way to make sure a punch is seen and counted.
"Boxing isn't bean-counting," Butler said. "The thing that makes (the computer system) dangerous is if you're a boxer, you know you're not going to get a point for a body shot, so what are you going to do except punch the head? There were no points given for combinations. You might get one point. If a kid was a counterpuncher, you'd lose."
AIBA has been moving its sport to a professional model for the past several years under the direction of President Wu Ching-Kuo, even opening two professional boxing ventures: the team-based World Series of Boxing and the individual APB Boxing, slated to debut this fall. AIBA even dropped the word "amateur" from its name and competitions to emphasize its desire to control boxing at every level.
"It is AIBA's duty to bring the sport of boxing to the pinnacle of the Olympic Movement, and I am convinced that these changes will critically contribute to the development of our beloved sport," Wu said. "Decisions have not been made lightly, and we will now put a lot of efforts in educating our national member federations, our officials, boxers and coaches, as well as boxing fans around the world."

Rio to bid for Formula 1 race

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes is reportedly preparing a bold proposal to bring Formula One to the Brazilian city.
Paes is seeking talks with F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone about the prospect of making Rio Brazil's second venue on the championship calendar after the Interlagos track in Sao Paulo, reports Xinhua.
It is understood Paes is hesitant to enter in a direct dispute with Sao Paulo for the event, but will do so if Ecclestone rules out the prospect of staging two Grand Prix races in the country.
Speaking at an announcement for Rio's new international speedway Friday, Paes said: "Be prepared Sao Paulo because I am going to steal the Formula 1 from you."

Interlagos, which is contracted to host an annual F1 race until 2015, was Brazil's first Grand Prix home in the 1970s before losing its host status to Rio de Janeiro's Jacarepagua circuit in 1981.
The event returned to Interlagos in 1990 and has remained there since.

India go down to Singapore in International Friendly

One thing is common between Indian cricket and football that Indian team is lion in home but they loss match outside india as India went down 0-2 to Singapore in an international football friendly at the Chao Chu Kang Stadium here Tuesday. There was much expectation from Indian football team as they were winner of the Nehru Cup winning the final against cameroon.Khairul Amri and Fazrul Nawaz scored one each for the home side in the 43rd and 49th minutes.
Captain of Both team before start of match

Despite conceding a goal in the first half, India was the better of the two teams. They began aggressively. In the ninth minute, Mehtab Hossain broke into the Singapore box but defender Harris Harun recovered in time to scuttle a Mehtab cross from inside the box. The very next minute, Clifford Miranda latched on a defensive lapse but Harun managed to flick his pass at the last minute to prevent Sunil Chhetri from pulling the trigger.

Much against the run of play, Singapore surged into the lead when Amri intercepted a clearance down the right, entered the box and placed it past an advancing Subrata Pal.
India Vs Singapore

Almost immediately, India had another chance but Sanju Pradhan's cross agonizingly missed Chhetri's forehead.

Changing over, Singapore didn't allow India to settle down and doubled the score in the 49th minute - Fazrul Nawaz putting it past a diving Pal.

To make matters worse, Chhetri suffered a slight niggle and was eventually replaced by Robin Singh in the 62nd minute; Jewel Raja also came in for Sanju Pradhan.

But it was an uphill task and despite India going all out, the Singapore defence managed to keep everything at bay till the final whistle.

Doha and Baku out from race of 2020 Olympic

Doha and Baku were eliminated from the race for the 2020 Olympics on Wednesday as the IOC trimmed the field of candidates from five cities to three.
Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul made the cut as the International Olympic Committee executive board settled on a shortlist of finalists.
Doha, capital of the Gulf state of Qatar, and Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, were rejected for a second time in a row after failing to make the final list for the 2016 Games.
Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul — all former bidders — now advance to the final phase, a 17-month race that will end with the IOC vote on Sept. 7, 2014, in Buenos Aires.
Madrid is bidding for a third consecutive time, Tokyo a second time in a row and Istanbul a fifth time overall
.
The executive board, headed by IOC President Jacques Rogge, chose the finalists after examining a technical evaluation report compiled by a panel of Olympic experts. The board voted on each candidate.
An official familiar with details of the selection told The Associated Press the board voted unanimously in favor of Tokyo and Madrid at 12-0 and supported Istanbul by 11-1. The vote was 0-12 for Baku and 3-9 for Doha, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the totals are not being made public.
Qatar is already hosting the 2022 World Cup, but faced questions over the heat, the timing and other issues for the Olympics. The IOC agreed to let Doha bid based on Qatar`s proposal to hold the games from Oct. 2-18 to avoid the brutal summer heat, but officials remained concerned about the weather, conditions for athletes and potential conflicts with television and other sports events going on during that time of year.
IOC executive director Gilbert Felli said the October date was "not the only reason" Doha was dropped from the race.
The dynamics of the race changed dramatically when Rome, considered a potential 2020 favorite, pulled out of the bidding in February after the Italian government declined to provide financial guarantees at a time of economic austerity.
Madrid is bidding against the backdrop of Spain`s financial crisis, something the IOC said it would take into account.
Madrid bid leader Alejandro Blanco said the city would go the distance until the vote in Buenos Aires. He insisted the Spanish government fully backs the project and said the games would be a catalyst for economic recovery.
Tokyo, which hosted the 1964 Olympics, is bidding in the aftermath of last year`s earthquake and tsunami disaster.
The Istanbul bid had been knocked off course by Turkey`s concurrent bid for soccer`s 2020 European Championship. The IOC has made clear that Turkey cannot both hold both events, but Istanbul gained breathing room last week when UEFA extended the bidding process for the Euros and scheduled the final decision for early 2014.
Istanbul leaders assured the IOC that the Olympic bid was the No. 1 priority of the Turkish government.

World's tallest tower opens to visitors in Tokyo!! Want to see?

The world's tallest tower and Japan's biggest new landmark, the Tokyo Skytree, opened to the public on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Nearly 8,000 visitors were expected to take high-speed elevators up to the observation decks of the 634-meter (2,080-foot) tower to mark its opening. Some reportedly waited in line more than a week to get the coveted tickets for a panoramic view, though Tuesday ended up being cloudy in Tokyo.
Tokyo SkyTree World Tallest Tower
Skytree is recognized by Guinness World Records as the tallest tower, beating out the Canton Tower in China, which is 600 meters (1,968 1/2 feet). Guinness lists the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, at 828 meters (2,716 feet 6 inches), as the world's tallest building.
The world's tallest structure is Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which stands 828 meters (2,717 feet). That's in a different category because it's a skyscraper, not a tower.
The Skytree will serve as a broadcast tower for television and radio, along with being a tourist attraction. It replaces the 333-meter-tall (1,092 1/2-foot-tall) Tokyo Tower — a symbol of Japan's capital since 1958 — as the broadcast hub. Michihiko Katsuragi, 27, has watched construction of the tower since moving to the area in 2009, according to a report in the Mainichi Daily News.
"I felt like I was growing up at the same time," he was quoted as saying.
Kazutaka Hasegawa got in line on May 16 and was the first visitor to the Skytree on Tuesday, according to the Mainichi Daily News.
World Tallest tower Opens on May 22 2012 for Public
"As a resident of Sumida Ward, I feel a sense of satisfaction in being the first person to ascend the tower," Hasegawa was quoted as saying.
The Skytree has two observation decks, at 350 meters (1,148 feet) and at 450 meters (1,476 feet).
The upper deck can hold 900 people at a time and the lower deck 2,000, according to a report from the Japan Daily Press. Only 6,000 tickets to the decks will be sold daily and they are sold online through a lottery system, the report said
Burj Khalifa World Tallest Building
.The Skytree complex, which also includes a shopping area, was expected to draw about 200,000 visitors on Tuesday, according to the Daily Press.
In 2014, China is expected to complete the Shanghai Tower, which at 2,073 feet will be the country's tallest building, and the world's tallest after the Burj Dubai.

Mohammad Asif to be released from jail on May 5

Banned Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif will be released from prison on May 5 after completing his jail term in the United Kingdom. Asif will decide when he plans to return to Pakistan after being released from prison, said his lawyer Ravi Gill. “Asif will complete his jail term on May 5 and all formalities have been completed for his release,” he said.
Asif and his Pakistan teammates Mohammad Aamir and Salman Butt were given different jail terms by a crown court in London last year in October for being involved in spot—fixing during Pakistan’s tour to England in 2010.
Mohammad Asif
The trio are also serving a five year ban by the anti—corruption tribunal of the International Cricket Council imposed in February 2011 for the same offence.
Aamir, the youngest of the three, returned home in March after completing a six months jail term in a youth detention centre in the UK, and he has also decided against appealing against the five year ban imposed on him by the ICC.
“We have heard Asif is being released this week. Whenever he returns to Pakistan, the terms and conditions of the ICC ban will remain and he will not be allowed to take part in any cricket related activity in Pakistan,” a official of the board said. Asif, 29, who took 106 wickets in 23 tests and another 36 wickets in 48 one—day internationals, was jailed for 12 months by the crown court while Butt was given a 30—month sentence. All three had appealed against their sentences but had their appeals rejected by the Lord Chief Justice.
Aamir since returning home has been kept away from all cricket activities and the board has not even allowed him to use the facilities at the National cricket academy in Lahore.
A family member of Asif said they wanted him to return home as soon as he was released as they were desperate to meet him

Final countdown starts to London Olympics 2012

Kew Gardens on an English spring morning hosted the first in a series of celebrations on Wednesday to commemorate the 100 days` countdown to the London Olympics.
An oak tree was  planted to mark Britain`s role in the birth of the modern Olympic movement and giant Olympic rings made up of 25,000 flowers had  displayed.
A city steeped in theatre and pageantry will then be entertained in the early afternoon by members of West End theatre shows assisted by British athletes taking part in a "West End Warm-Up" performance in Trafalgar Square.
On the following day the 70-day Olympic torch relay begins at Land`s End.
Any initial trepidation about Britain`s ability to stage a major global event has long vanished and last month the London organising committee received a glowing endorsement from International Olympic Committee commission chairman Denis Oswald who proclaimed: "London is ready to welcome the world." "We can feel that London is feeling the fever of the Games," Oswald said. "We are in no doubt that this summer will be a summer like no other in Britain."

Ensuring a unforgettable Olympics for London and the thousands of athletes and visitors who will pour into Britain for the Games opening on July 27 is the ultimate responsibility of organising committee chairman Sebastian Coe.
A reminder of the disturbing ease with which big sporting events can be disrupted came this month when an intruder in the Thames disrupted the annual university boat race between Oxford and Cambridge.
In an interview with Reuters to mark the 100 days` landmark, Coe said there was a need to get a balance between the safeties of the competitors while ensuring spectators were not subjected to oppressive security measures.
"Competitors are doing something at the highest level, they have devoted over half their young lives to be there," he said.
"It is our responsibility to make sure they have a secure environment in which to compete but you do not want people coming to London feeling they have come to a siege town.
"We will get that balance right; we have to get that balance right. I am not being remotely cavalier or particularly sanguine about the nature of what we have to do but we will get this right."
Coe was also upbeat about London`s problematic transport system.
"At Games time things will be different," he said. "This is the first time a Games will have been on these shores for 64 years and there`s nobody in this room, there`s probably nobody sitting out there now that is going to is going to witness them again in their lifetime so it is a celebration. "The city will look different, it will be different, getting about it will be different."
Asked about criticisms of the high cost of a sports event in grim economic times, Coe said there would be some validity to the argument if the Olympics was just a sporting festival.
"But of course it isn`t," he said. "We have regenerated in the process a large part of east London, we`ve transformed the lives of many young people living in east London.
"More broadly we have an opportunity to showcase this country in front of four billion people not just in sport but in our cultural communities. We have the ability to host 200 countries.

Bangladesh to tour Pakistan to play international Cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board were informed on Sunday that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have agreed the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan will take place and will involve one One-Day International and one Twenty20 International to be held in Lahore. The ICC Board, having due regard to its duty of care to match officials and other ICC staff, requested that the PCB to immediately provide a comprehensive security plan for consideration.

Thereafter, the ICC’s Anti Corruption and Security Unit will commission a localised risk assessment to determine whether its officials and staff are appropriately protected by the proposed security plan, before any further decision is taken in relation to their appointment.
The ODI is scheduled for 29 April 2012 and the Twenty20 will be played one day later at the same venue.
BCB President Mustafa Kamal said: “The public of Pakistan have been deprived of cricket and we felt that we needed to support them. The reception we received when we toured Lahore and Karachi on our security visit was overwhelming.”
Zaka Ashraf, the PCB chairman, said: “I want to thank the BCB and the Bangladesh Government for their support for this tour.”
ICC said it will advise of other agenda items considered by the ICC Board at the conclusion of the meeting tomorrow (Monday) when ICC will hold a press conference

Nico Rosberg takes first win in Chinese GP

Nico Rosberg won the Chinese Grand Prix for Mercedes from pole position on Sunday in the first victory of his 111-race Formula One career.
Britain's Jenson Button finished second for McLaren with team mate and compatriot Lewis Hamilton finishing third for the third race in a row to take the championship lead.
Rosberg's victory was the first by Mercedes, as a works team, since 1955 when Argentine Juan ManuelFangio won the Italian Grand Prix from pole.
At the front it was a stroll in the park. Few expected the Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher to maintain their qualifying advantage for the duration of the Chinese Grand Prix, but Rosberg seized the lead at the start and was never threatened thereafter. He went on to take a comfortable victory, 20.6sec clear of his rivals: it was his maiden Formula One success and the first for a Mercedes chassis since Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1955 Italian GP, at Monza.
This year's Mercedes has a reputation for shredding its tyres over a race distance, but cooler temperatures played into the team's hands and Rosberg was able to pull away at his leisure. With no immediate pressure from behind, the German was able to look after his rubber and made only two tyre stops while most of his main adversaries plumped for three.
Rosberg had a buffer during the early stages, with Schumacher sitting a few seconds behind, but the veteran dropped out moments after his first pit stop because he rejoined before his front right wheel had been properly secured.
Despite his comfortable advantage, Rosberg's victory owed a little to good fortune: Jenson Button looked set to challenge the leader, but a sticky left-rear wheel delayed his final stop and dropped the Englishman into traffic.
In the race's closing stages, Rosberg led a queue featuring a blend of cars on fresh and worn tyres – and a volley of passing manoeuvres enlivened the closing laps as several drivers' rubber wilted. Button was able to pick his way through to take second ahead of his McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
Nico Rosberg celebrating his win

"My pace was very good prior to the final stop," said Button, "and I thought I might be able to hunt down Nico towards the end. For that, though, I needed to rejoin on a clear track, but the pit delay put me behind four other cars and I had to fight my way through."
The Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel took fourth and fifth, from Romain Grosjean (Lotus, his first F1 points finish), Bruno Senna (Williams), Pastor Maldonado (Williams), Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) and Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber).

Hamilton has finished third in each of this season's first three races and holds a slender championship lead over Button, by 45 points to 43, with Alonso (37) and Webber (36) next up.

Runako Morton, former West Indies batsman, dies in car crash

Former West Indies batsman Runako Morton has died in a car accident.
Reports in the Caribbean said the 33-year-old crashed into a utility pole while driving alone in central Trinidad following a club match.
Morton played in 15 Tests and 56 one-day internationals, with his last West Indies appearance coming against Australia in a Twenty20 match in 2010.
Former West Indies captain Chris Gayle tweeted:  "We lost a true warrior WI cricketer. May his soul rest in peace!"
The West Indies Cricket Board said:  "Our deepest condolences to Runako Morton's family. Such devastating and tragic news."
England batsman Kevin Pietersen also paid tribute on Twitter:  "My thoughts go out to Runako Morton's family this morning... Such sad news! What a lovely guy & fierce competitor! RIP bossman!"
Runako Morton

Morton averaged 22.03 in Test matches with a top score of 70, but he had more success on the limited overs stage. He averaged 33.75, with the highlight an unbeaten 110 against New Zealand in 2006.
In an international career that lasted eight years, he also endured a chequered disciplinary record with the West Indies.
In 2002, he was banned from playing in any game that came under WICB jurisdiction for 12 months after he was found guilty of misbehaviour during an 'A' team tour to Ireland and lying about the death of a grandmother to gain an early release from the ICC Trophy squad in Sri Lanka.
Morton was one of the few West Indies cricketers to emerge from the small island of Nevis. His first-class career began with the Leeward Islands and he was latterly registered with Trinidad and Tobago.

Bahrain GP organisers say Formula 1 race is on

Bahrain Grand Prix organisers have officially confirmed they will be hosting the Formula One race April 22. Top brass at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) headed by chief executive Sheikh Salman Bin Isa Al Khalifa said in a press conference that the racing weekend will be April 20-22 and will be held under the slogan "Unified One Nation".
He also said special discounts will be offered to fans for tickets, which will be sold across the country.
Bahrain was initially scheduled to host the season opener, but F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone suggested a change in the calendar.

Ecclestone told Motor Sport magazine Hall of Fame recently that the Formula One's governing body can be trusted to make the right decision about racing in Bahrain, according to Red Bull team boss Christian Horner.

"As far as I am aware, we are definitely going," Horner had said.

"We rely on the FIA, it is the FIA Formula One world championship, and Bahrain is one of the races on the calendar."

The 2011 Bahrain round was cancelled due to civil unrest in the country.

Several F1 teams voiced their concerns on not to hold the race due to alleged human rights violations.

Videos of anti-government protests were reportedly sent out to drivers and teams to create a sense of fear.

Australian All Rounder Andrew Symonds retired from all forms of Cricket

Former Australia allrounder Andrew Symonds says he has pulled out of this year's Indian Premier League and retired from all forms of professional cricket.
Symonds was due to play for the Mumbai Indians during the April-May tournament, but said late Thursday the impending birth of his first child had influenced him to withdraw.
The 36-year-old said "recently I have had several new and exciting opportunities come my way, and I have decided it's time to commit to and develop the next stage of my life."
Symonds played 26 tests and 198 one-dayers for Australia, but has not represented his country since being sent home from the World Twenty20 in 2009.
 Andrew Symonds

He said the Mumbai Indians have been supportive of his decision "and I wish the team every success this year."  "It is with regret that I will not be able to fulfil my final year of the IPL with theMumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians and the IPL have both been very supportive of me, but the impending arrival of my first child is a priority," he said.
Symonds made his first class debut in 1994-95 before playing his first ODIin November 1998 against Pakistan in Lahore. He scored 5,088 runs from 198 ODIs at an average of 39.75 before retiring in 2009.
 Andrew Symonds

The burly all-rounder made his Test debut in March 2004 against Sri Lanka and scored 1,462 runs from 26 matches at an average of 40.61 before playing his last match against South Africa in December 2008. He has 24 and 133 wickets in Test and ODI cricket respectively.

United Nations website gets hacked

A hacker who infiltrated the United Nations (UN) website has posted a list of potential network security vulnerabilities along with a detailed "map" of the organization's internal database on Pastebin.

"Why did you hack it? I [am] fighting for Internet freedom, equality and rights for all," 'Casi' wrote in an online post. "You're FREEDOM my brothers & my sisters!"

The digital breach was promptly confirmed by Martin Nesirky, a spokesperson for the Secretary General of the United Nations.
"A case of unauthorized access to the UN website is still being investigated," Nesirky said in an official statement.

United Nations website gets hacked
"Whoever sought access was able to read some data from databases but was not able to modify content and was not able to prevent public access to the website."

Perhaps not unsurprisingly, security analyst Aaron Titus of Identity Finder told Fox News the UN had failed to follow the most basic web security procedures.
"It's web security 101. This breach seems to be a very simple attack," Titus explained.
