IPL T20:Sreesanth and other player gets life ban for IPL fixing

India and Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Sreesanth has been handed a life ban by the BCCI for his involvement in spot-fixing in IPL 2013. His Royals team-mate and Mumbai spinner Ankeet Chavan was also banned for life, following the board's disciplinary committee meeting in Delhi on Friday.
Amit Singh, the Gujarat cricketer-turned-bookie, got a five-year ban, while Saurashtra and Royals seamer Siddharth Trivedi is suspended for a year for not reporting an approach among other things. Twenty-one-year-old Harmeet Singh, who was part of India's Under-19 World Cup winning team in 2012 and had a similar charge against him as Trivedi, has been cleared of wrongdoing due to a lack of evidence against him.
Sreesanth
There has been no ruling as yet on offspinner Ajit Chandila, the third Royals player who was arrested in May, since he is yet to be questioned by Ravi Sawani, who led the BCCI's probe into the matter. Save for a few days when Chandila was out on bail due to a death in the family, he has been in police or judicial custody since his arrest on May 16, meaning Sawani could not speak to him. However, he was granted bail on September 9, so his case should come up soon. Sreesanth and Chavan were out on bail since June 11.
Sreesanth tweeted soon after the news of his ban broke, saying he found it "surprising". "Been tracking the news channels... Me getting a life ban??!! Very surprising," he said. The tweet was deleted soon after.
While Trivedi is banned from playing any BCCI-organised cricket, the other three are banned from playing any such cricket or in any way being associated with activities of the Indian board or its affiliates. The penalties were decided upon by the disciplinary committee, comprising board president N Srinivasan and vice-presidents, Arun Jaitley and Niranjan Shah. The ban means Trivedi will have to be replaced in Royals' squad for the Champions League T20, which begins on September 21.
The players, minus Chandila, were summoned by the board to present their case in the disciplinary committee meeting in Delhi.
Sreesanth, Chavan and Chandila were arrested by Delhi Police on May 16 in Mumbai, for the alleged fulfilling of promises made to bookmakers, along with eleven bookies including Amit Singh. Royals later suspended their players and the BCCI set up an inquiry into the matter, headed by its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit chief Sawani. Apart from the action taken by the board, the players face possible prison sentences should they be found guilty in a court of law. They were among 39 persons named in the Delhi Police's chargesheet on alleged corruption in the IPL in July, charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating and dishonesty under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.

IPL Spot fixing: RR Team owner Raj Kundra involved in betting; passport seized

Police in New Delhi investigating a spot-fixing cricket scandal on Thursday ordered the owner of an Indian Premier League (IPL) team not to leave India, an officer told AFP.Raj Kundra, husband of actress Shilpa Shetty and one of the owners of Rajasthan Royals, was ordered to hand over his passport to a police team trying to establish a link between corrupt players and organised crime syndicates.
"As Kundra is part of our investigations, he has been told not to leave the country and hand over his passport," the senior officer told AFP on condition of anonymity. Kundra was questioned by police for 10 hours on Wednesday.
So far, three players from his Rajasthan Royals team have been arrested over allegations of spot-fixing during the sixth edition of the cash-rich Twenty20 IPL tournament. "He is basically found involved in betting and we have not yet been able to connect him to (spot) fixing," the investigator said as police quizzed Kundra in New Delhi.
Police are unlikely to book Kundra under India's anti-gambling law which is a bailable offence.
"We don't want to lose focus from our main investigation into the involvement of crime syndicates" in the IPL, the officer said in an interview.Test bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and two of his teammates were arrested last month, accused of deliberately bowling badly in specific IPL matches in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars from bookmakers.
Rajathan Royals Owner Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty with Rahul Dravid
A court denied the players bail on Tuesday after police said they had evidence to prove organised crime syndicates were involved in the scandal.Delhi's police commissioner has told AFP that players for some of the eight other IPL teams were also under suspicion.
The developments came two days after a Mumbai court granted bail to the son-in-law of India's cricket chief who was also arrested last month over the illegal betting scandal.Gurunath Meiyappan, part of the management of the Chennai Super Kings team, has been accused of placing bets on matches through a Bollywood actor who was also arrested.
Spot-fixing, in which a specific part of the match but not the outcome is fixed, is illegal. Betting on the IPL is also illegal under India's laws which ban gambling on all sports except horse-racing. Meiyappan is the son-in-law of Indian cricket board chief N. Srinivasan who on Sunday stepped aside pending the outcome of an internal probe into allegations of spot-fixing in IPL matches.

IPL 6 Match Fixing Scandal: KKR, RCB match may come under scanner for 'match-fixing'

A recent IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore may also come under the scanner of Delhi Police for "match-fixing" after the interrogation of Rajasthan Royal's player Ajit Chandila and bookies who have been arrested on charges of spot-fixing, police sources said today. However, Delhi Police said as such they have no evidence to corroborate the claims of Chandila and others made during questioning in the IPL spot-fixing scandal or to come to a conclusion that the match was fixed.

The match in question is the one played between the two teams in Ranchi on May 12 which KKR won by four wickets.Police sources came out with these details a day after the arrest of Bhupender Nagar, a security manager of two night clubs in Delhi.
They said Nagar was in touch with Chandila for the past seven-eight months as the player was a regular in the night club located in a prominent hotel in Nehru Place.Nagar's friend Vicky, also a bouncer in a night club of a prominent hotel in New Delhi, wanted to get in touch with some cricketers in the first week of May. Within two days, Nagar took Chandila, who came from Bangalore, to a night club in Vasant Kunj where Vicky met him.Later, Nagar, Vicky and two bookies went to Jaipur to meet Chandila to get some information on a particular match."Chandila was asked by the bookies about who will win the match between KKR and RCB on May 12. The spinner told the bookies that KKR will win and actually KKR won the match," a senior police official said.
The bookies had agreed to pay Rs 30 lakh to Chandila but refused to pay him later as they had claimed to have incurred loss due to a low-scoring match. RCB batted first and scored 115 and chasing the target, KKR made the winning run in the 20th over.

IPL 6 Final Live Stream: Watch Live Stream online of IPL Final CSK Vs MI

Embroiled in the spot-fixing scam, becoming champions for a third time would be a daunting task for the Chennai Super Kings when they take on the formidable Mumbai Indians in the summit clash of the scandal-marred Indian Premier League, here on Sunday.
The arrest of its management official M Gurunath, who is the son-in-law of the team owner and BCCI President N Srinivasan, on the suspicion of betting, would have surely dented the morale of the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side.It will be a huge challenge for the players and their skipper to cope up with the situation and play their natural game against a team, which is keen to win that elusive trophy.Chennai have been a part of four consecutive, five overall, finals but it is the best chance for Mumbai to take a good shot at the title, avenge their 2010 final defeat.
It is one trophy that is missing from the cabinet of the milestone man of Indian cricket. He had a heartbreak as Mumbai Indians captain in 2010 when the team lost to Dhoni's men by 22 runs.It was CSK's first IPL title and since then Dhoni's team has grown in stature.
On paper, it's a battle of equals with both Chennai and Mumbai boasting explosive Twenty20 specialists in Michael Hussey, Dwayne Smith, Ravindra Jadeja and Kieron Pollard.
Both teams have a penetrating pace attack with Albie Morkel and season's find Mohit Sharma doing a tidy job for Chennai, while Mitchell Johnson, Lasith Malinga and Pollard make a terrific trio in the Mumbai ranks.

In conditions where spin-bowling could prove to be a decisive factor, Chennai have a star-studded line-up in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja but Mumbai can match them with the experienced duo of Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha.
The return to form of Harbhajan (3/23), who had a man-of-the-match performance against the Rajasthan Royals last night, would augur well for Mumbai even as they face injury concerns with regards to Ojha who has hurt his elbow.

That Eden is a happy hunting ground for Mumbai (five wins from six outings) would certainly give Rohit Sharma's team an edge.
Dwayne Smith's red-hot form would be another advantage as Mumbai would hope the West Indian would fire again and steer the side without gifting his wicket away.
Smith's 44-ball 62 (second successive half-century) was once again the highlight of the last night's second qualifier before Mumbai.
Incidentally, Sharma was part of the triumphant Deccan Chargers in 2009 and it would be a second IPL final for the Mumbai skipper. The only issue he would have to address is the team's tendency to choke in the middle.
It has been a frustrating month for Sharma as the batsman has not been able to convert his starts with his last half-century (79 unbeaten) coming against Kings XI Punjab way back on April 29.
Sharma's woeful form with the bat continued in the last match as well when his middle stump was rattled by Siddharth Trivedi.Mumbai would hope that the skipper get into the act especially on the stage that matters the most.

Chennai is a team full of stars with Orange Cap holder Micheal Hussey leading the run charts with 732 runs (@56.30) as 'Mr Cricket' would look to contribute again along with another Dhoni's trusted lieutenant Suresh Raina who has 548 runs (45.66) including an unbeaten 100.
In bowling, Dwayne Bravo has been Dhoni's go to man with 28 wickets. Dhoni will also look up to the young Mohit who has impressed with 19 scalps from 17 matches.
But it's the duo of Ashwin and Jadeja who will be encouraged by the Eden conditions as they would look to get maximum out of the spin-friendly Eden conditions.

Teams From:

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni (C), Michael Hussey, Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Subramaniam Badrinath, Dwayne Bravo, Albie Morkel, Chris Morris, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma, Akila Dananjaya, Faf du Plessis, Ben Hilfenhaus, Jason Holder, Nuwan Kulasekara, Ben Laughlin, Dirk Nannes, Anirudha Srikkanth, Baba Aparajith, Imtiaz Ahmed, Shadab Jakati, R Karthikeyan, Ronit More, Ankit Rajpoot, Wriddhiman Saha and Vijay Shankar.

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (C), Dwayne Smith, Aditya Tare, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Kieron Pollard, Ambatti Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell Johnson, Lasith Malinga, Pragyan Ojha, Rishi Dhawan, Ricky Ponting, Glenn Maxwell, Jacob Oram, Sachin Tendulkar, Abu Nechim, Amitoze Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Munaf Patel, Javed Khan, Sushant Marathe, Akshar Patel, Jalaj Saxena, Pawan Suyal and Suryakumar Yadav.

Pune Warriors India withdraw from Indian Premier League

After Spot fixing Scandal IPL(Indian Premier League) is now facing another trouble. Pune Warriors franchise withdrew from the Indian Premier League on Tuesday. This after it failed to pay the full franchise fees for the current year.

Finishing 8th in the ongoing IPL 6, Sahara Pune Warriors failed to pay the full franchise fee for the current year which resulted in BCCI encashing the bank guarantee. IPL 6 spot-fixing: Sreesanth confesses to the crime

The three tainted cricketers who were arrested on Thursday following allegations of spot-fixing were interrogated today by Delhi Police. According to latest reports in Indian media, the prominent player among the three - S Sreesanth - has just confessed to Delhi Police. Sources say Sreesanth has said that he has done a mistake, reports Times of India.
S.Sreesanth

One of them – Ankeet Chavan – was the first to break down and accepted his role in spot-fixing. Earlier in the day, Sreesanth had alleged that he was framed because of his association with an alleged bookie named Jiju Janardhan. His lawyers had also insisted he was innocent. All 14 men arrested in the scam spent Thursday night in police custody.

Meanwhile, police is investigating whether spot-fixing took place in matches involving Rajasthan Royals other than the three matches in which three of its players were allegedly involved.

IPL Match Fixing: Sreesanth among 10 arrested for spot-fixing in IPL6

Former Indian paceman S. Sreesanth and two other players of the Rajasthan Royals Indian Premier League (IPL) team have been arrested by the Delhi Police and charged with spot-fixing in the on-going tournament, Indian media has reported.Sreesanth and the others, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan, were arrested in Mumbai and will be brought to Delhi to be produced in court.
Chavan played against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night in which Rajasthan lost by 14 runs. The police have also arrested seven bookies. Police sources said the players have been accused of spot-fixing in different matches this week.
S. Sreesanth
They also said that investigtions have been on for some time into alleged spot-fixing in the cash-rich IPL tournament, the sixth edition of which is being played now.The Rajasthan Royals IPL franchise co-owned by Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty has qualified for the Play-offs. Raj Kundra, owner of Rajasthan Royals and actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband, tweeted: “Just when IPL was going on so smoothly without controversies, I woke up to the news of three Rajasthan Royal players alleged spot fixing. Investigations are on.”

He continued: “When asked the repeated question is IPL fixed my answer is always IPL teams can’t be fixed but individual players who lack integrity can.”

Kundra also said that team captain Rahul Dravid will be the most hurt if these spot-fixing allegations are proved correct.

Meanwhile, sources are claiming the spot-fixing calls were routed from somewhere in the Gulf.

Ajit Chandila

The 29-year-old offspinner from Haryana made his first-class debut in 2010, six years after his first List A game for his state side. He was signed by Delhi Daredevils in 2010 but came into prominence only after he started playing for Rajasthan, claiming 11 wickets in 12 matches for the side, including a hat-trick against Pune Warriors India in 2012.
Ajit Chandila
The lanky spinner, employed with Air India, has been extremely effective early in the innings when Rahul Dravid, the Rajasthan skipper, used him as a surprised weapon in the Powerplay overs. He claimed the wickets of Sachin Tedulkar and Ricky Ponting when Rajasthan played Mumbai Indians in Jaipur. His other famous victims include Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and VVS Laxman.

Ankeet Chavan
Chavan, the left-arm spinner, has been a regular with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team in the last few seasons. The 27-year-old has taken 53 wickets in first-class games at 36.43. The left-handed batsman has also contributed for his state side lower down the order, making 571 runs at 35.68.
Ankeet Chavan
Chavan has played three games for Rajasthan Royals this season, picking up just one wicket. Overall, he has taken eight wickets in 13 matches for Rajasthan. He was also in the eleven for Wednesday's game against Mumbai Indians. After giving away just two runs in his first over, he bowled a long hop and a half-volley in his next over, which were hit for two big sixes by Glenn Maxwell. This over could be the one being investigated for spot-fixing.

IPL 6 2013 Live Stream: Watch Live stream of Chennai Super Kings Vs Kings XI Punjab

Dear readers the IPL 6 is looking more and more intresting as lots of games have been already played and one of them was super Over Match. Eleventh Match of IPL 6 2013 is going to be held between consistent Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. The match is to be played at Mohali that is the home Ground of Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings had contrasting starts to IPL 2013. While Kings XI thrashed Pune Warriors in an away game, Super Kings slipped up after a dominant beginning in Chennai, handing Mumbai Indians a victory. Going into their second matches, both teams are at opposite ends of the points table, ends neither is too familiar with.
For Kings XI, it was a near-perfect display. They were disciplined with the ball, energetic with the bat and electric in the field. Parvinder Awana bowled possibly the delivery of the IPL so far, angling in and moving across Angelo Mathews to have him caught behind. Mandeep Singh, with a little help from Adam Gilchrist, accounted for Marlon Samuels with an inch-perfect throw from deep midwicket. Then there was Gurkeerat Singh's spectacular, flying take in the long leg region, to get rid of Ross Taylor. Three special moments, which ripped the heart out of Warriors' batting. Gilchrist and Manan Vohra then sealed things in style, knocking off the target of 100 with almost eight overs to spare.

Super Kings, on the other hand, had Mumbai at 83 for 6 after 12 overs, before Kieron Pollard showed grit and gumption. Still, the target of 149 was hardly daunting for a line-up like Super Kings'. A series of poor shots though pushed them so far behind in the chase that even a MS Dhoni special could not rescue the team. But Super Kings have seen it all before, and one game is hardly a measure of how an IPL season could turn out. If the players' tweets ribbing Ravindra Jadeja on the eve of the Mohali match are any indication, team morale is high. Plus, they have reinforcements in the form of South African allrounders, Albie Morkel and Chris Morris, who arrived following the conclusion of their domestic commitments. Morkel was an injury worry, turning an ankle during South Africa's T20 final on Sunday, but he has since tweeted that his scans are clear.
Kings XI are still without the services of injured Australian batsman Shaun Marsh - he tweeted on Saturday that he hoped to be with the team in a week's time.
Players to watch
So far, this IPL has thrown up a number of unlikely heroes. Rahul Shukla impressed with his pace for Rajasthan Royals, and Hanuma Vihari with an all-round showing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Then there was 19-year-old Manan Vohra for Kings XI. Admittedly, he was not really under any pressure against Warriors, with the target being a paltry 100, but the fact that it was his IPL debut compensated for that; it was his first real taste of the crowds, the TV cameras, the hype. How did he respond? By slamming five fours in his first seven balls, carving through the covers, flicking through the leg side and, most impressively, swiveling to pull. He eventually finished unbeaten on 43 off 28. Vohra continuing where he left off will go a long way in helping Kings XI build on their remarkable start to the tournament.
Chris Morris set his base price at US$20,000 in February's IPL auction. He was bought for US$625,000; Super Kings paid 31 times the base price for the allrounder, who can be expected to produce accurate, pacy spells, and get a few big hits away down the order. Morris first caught the eye at the 2012 Champions League where his team, Lions, finished runners-up. On Sunday, he took 2 for 18 at 5.68 as Lions triumphed in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge, claiming the big wickets of Herschelle Gibbs and Albie Morkel. With Morkel unlikely to be 100% fit after his ankle trouble, and Ben Laughlin having an average game against Mumbai, there's a good chance Morris will get an IPL debut on Wednesday.
Stats and trivia
·         Kings XI have won four of their last five IPL matches against Super Kings. Before that, they'd lost five in a row against them.
·         Suresh Raina needs three sixes to become the second player, after Chris Gayle, to get to 100 sixes in the IPL. Gilchrist is third on the list, with 87 sixes.
·         MS Dhoni has scored three fifties in eight innings against Kings XI, averaging 44.80 at a strike rate of 155.55

Delhi are looking to comeback in the tournaments with the win while Mumbai Indians also want the win. Delhi dare Devils Look stronger with two Foregin player who will be joining the teams and they are Morne Morkel the highest wicket take of last seasons IPL and another African

Sachin Tendulkar has received many shocking lbw decisions over his career. The one he got against Chennai Super Kings wasn't one of them, still, his reaction was about as livid as you'll ever see Tendulkar on the field. It is surprising the match referee did not have anything to say. That is a different matter, but Tendulkar's disgust showed his desperation to make runs. Has the presence of another legend at the other end made him even more determined?
Morne Morkel had 25 wickets last IPL season at just over seven runs an over. Indications are he will play, and if he does, the tall fast bowler should enjoy the bounce the Wankhede generally offers. Mumbai have had batting stutters in both matches so far, and facing Morkel will be a testing prospect.
Stats and trivia
  • Last year at Wankhede, Mumbai Indians were shot out for 92, with the Daredevils quick bowlers picking up seven wickets.
  • Kieron Pollard is eight short of 3500 T20 runs

IPL 6 2013: Watch Live Streaming of Rajashthan Royals Vs Kolkota Knight Riders

Both Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders have begun this IPL campaign with victories, and their captains have had a significant influence on the outcome with strong batting displays. Knight Riders won their home game on a slower pitch, where Sunil Narine and the medium-pacers proved highly effective in containing Delhi Daredevils with regular wickets. Royals, too, beat the same opposition, in more batting-friendly conditions, but Daredevils pushed them close. Knight Riders' chase was comfortable, Royals' defense of 165 required two excellent overs at the death and a brilliant effort in the field to run out David Warner.

As the teams look to build on their early success, they have some fitness worries heading in to the game in Jaipur. Rahul Dravid, the Royals captain, who hardly played since the last IPL season, scored a half-century but had to leave the field due to cramps, though is expected to play on Monday. Perhaps their most important player, Australia allrounder Shane Watson, has joined the squad and took part in a practice session on Sunday.
For Knight Riders, Jacques Kallis, L Balaji, and Brett Lee reportedly suffered a stomach bug but are recovering. Apart from winning more convincingly, Knight Riders were excellent in the field against Daredevils, while Royals dropped a couple of catches - but they did pull off two terrific bits of fielding to transform the game. Though they'll be playing at home, Royals may yet again start as underdogs against the defending champions.

The last month of India's domestic season was a productive one for Yusuf Pathan, who has warmed up well for the IPL with a century and two half-centuries in a row in the Vijay Hazare Trophy before this. The IPL in 2012, despite his own team's title triumph, was personally not as satisfying, with 194 runs in 16 innings at 19.40. He calmly guided Knight Riders to victory in the opening game after Gambhir's dismissal, and his team will be looking for more assured performances from him this time around.
Comparisons with Sanath Jayasuriya will chase Kusal Perera through the tournament, especially with his attempted flicks past square leg. He has a triple-century to his name in first-class cricket, had a good home series against Bangladesh, and played some attractive shots during his brief stay in the Royals' IPL opener. Swapnil Asnodkar made a name for himself in the IPL in the first season in 2008 for the Royals (though he's faded away since then), can Perera do better?Stats and trivia
L Balaji has conceded the most runs to Rahul Dravid in the IPL. Dravid has taken 59 runs off 43 balls off Balaji and has been dismissed just once.
Brad Hodge has struck the most boundary fours in T20 cricket, with 549 in 180 games.

IPL 6 2013 Live Stream: Watch Live streaming of Royal Challengers Banglore Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Heading into their first away match of IPL 2013, Royal Challengers Bangalore may start favourites but Sunrisers Hyderabad, with a victory as well in their opening game, showed they can be tough and determined opponents.
How formidable the Sunrisers' challenge will be depends largely on their batting order. With the exception of Thisara Perera, nobody really managed to take charge of the innings after getting a start. Against Royal Challengers, they will be tested against a stronger bowling attack.
Chris Gayle is fit for Royal Challengers after limping through a good part of his match-winning innings in their first game. Gayle, again, had a huge influence on his team's fortunes, but he could have done with more support during his unbeaten 92. He and Virat Kohli added 25 before Royal Challengers slipped to 80 for 5. Only KB Arun Karthik gave him company of any significance. Getting Gayle early offers Sunrisers' bowlers a strong chance of containing Royal Challengers.

On Sunday, Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan will be up against Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma on a track that could likely play the way it did in the low-scorer between Sunrisers and Pune Warriors. Royal Challengers would have noted Steyn's dominance in his first spell but playing Perera and Amit Mishra could prove just as challenging.

Players to watch
Amit Mishra, the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL, has bowled fairly consistently through the IPLs. Against Warriors, he brought out his variations to stifle the batsmen. Royal Challengers have good players of spin in Dilshan and Virat Kohli and as the lead spinner in the side, Mishra will have to shoulder the responsibility of keeping the opposition in check.
Tillakaratne Dilshan took the IPL by storm in 2009, scoring 418 runs for Delhi Daredevils. Since his shift to Royal Challengers, he's been an important member of the line-up, scoring more than 500 runs in 20 games. He would no doubt have rued the shot that got him out against Mumbai Indians, but with two centuries and a half-century in his last five innings, Dilshan will be eager to put that start behind him and get going in IPL 2013.

Stats and trivia
Royal Challengers have won just one out of their last four matches in Hyderabad. Their last victory in Hyderabad was in 2008.
With three wickets in the last match against Mumbai Indians, R Vinay Kumar became the first Royal Challengers bowler to get to 50 wickets. He now has 52 wickets from 49 matches at an average of 26.07 for his side. His overall tally in the

IPL 6 2013 Live Stream: Watch Live streaming of Pune Warriors Vs Kings XI Punjab

In a long tournament such as the IPL, one would be wise not to draw large conclusions from some early signs teams might display in their first few games. Pune Warriors would know that well. Last year, they began brightly, winning their first two matches, including one at the superb new stadium on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in front of a capacity home crowd. Things were looking up, but only temporarily, as Warriors' fortunes slid rapidly. They won just two of their next 14 games.

This season, their campaign has begun with a defeat, in a game they should have won, and Warriors will be hoping for a reversal that's as stark as the one they experienced in 2012. They were tied down in a small chase by some excellent bowling by Sunrisers Hyderabad, and their batting needs to come good against the Kings XI Punjab attack that can be a tricky opponent.

Kings XI Punjab are heavy on medium-pace and spin options that can restrict sides on slowish tracks, and the Subroto Roy Sahara Stadium appeared to produce a mixed bag last year, with several scores above 150 as well as totals as low as 121 that were successfully defended. Punjab have had their own concerns with deceptive starts. They had an impressive first season, but didn't make it to the knockouts in the next four. Last season, they didn't win more than two games on the trot and had a poor spell at home, just as Pune did.

Players to watch
Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey, both from Karnataka, can be an explosive duo at the top of the order, but found the going difficult against Dale Steyn in the first game. Both opened last season, but not regularly and never together. Uthappa did slightly better than his partner, amid frequent shuffling in the batting line-up, but how they - attacking batsmen who love to dominate the bowling - perform in tandem remains to be seen. They did provide an indication, with a 145-run stand, albeit in a losing cause last year.
Parvinder Awana was in the limelight last IPL season with 17 wickets from 12 games, impressing many with his pace, at one point clocking 147 kmph against Mumbai Indians. He was ignored by selectors for the India A tour to the Caribbean last year, but a strong performance in the Ranji Trophy for Delhi won him a call-up to India's Test squad during the series against England. Among the quicker bowlers in India, he'll be closely monitored again.

2012 head-to-head
These two teams played back-to-back games last season, and shared honours. Warriors beat Kings XI by 22 runs in the first game. The second one was a low-scorer, with Warriors being bowled out for 115 and Kings XI chasing it down comfortably. Dimitri Mascarenhas picked up a five-for.

Stats and trivia
Pune Warriors have played 31 IPL games in all, but are yet to have a centurion.
David Hussey stands an excellent chance of completing 5000 runs in T20 cricket. He is on 4821 currently, 75 behind Chris Gayle and 453 behind leader Brad Hodge.
