ICC World Cup Cricket 2015: Afghanistan Qualify for ICC Cricket world Cup 2015

Afghanistan secured their passage to Australia and New Zealand in 2015 by beating Kenya comprehensively for the second time in succession in Sharjah, sealing their maiden World Cup qualification. They finished second in the World Cricket League Championship - nine wins in 14 matches - and joined Ireland as the second Associate team in the 2015 World Cup, while the remaining two spots for Associates will be decided by a qualifying tournament in New Zealand in 2014.
Afghanistan had to beat Kenya to prevent UAE from gaining qualification and their bowlers delivered once again. Having dismissed Kenya for 89 on October 2, Afghanistan skittled them for 93 today, ensuring their batsmen had a easy target to achieve their World Cup goal. They did it in 20.5 overs to reach their third global tournament, having appeared in the World Twenty20s in 2010 and 2012.
Before their wickets began to tumble, however, Kenya had been stifled: their run rate was less than one during the first 15 overs. Karim Sadiq provided Afghanistan their first wicket, trapping Irfan Karim lbw in the sixth over for 3 off 27 balls. The second came one over later, with Mohammd Nabi bowling Gurdeep Singh for 1 off 23 deliveries.
Morris Ouma had just struck the innings' first boundary, off the last ball of the 16th over, when he lost his partner Collins Obuya the next ball. Their partnership of 9 had taken seven overs, leaving the innings with no momentum. Kenya then had their largest stand - 53 between Ouma and Rakep Patel for the fourth wicket - but after that was broken when Patel missed a cut off Hamza Kotak, there was no more resistance.

Ouma followed for 39 an over later - run out by Samiullah Shenwari - and Hotak and Hamid Hassan made short work of the lower order. Afghanistan took seven wickets for 24 to dismiss Kenya in 43.3 overs. It was Kenya's third sub-100 score against Afghanistan in five days; they had been routed for 56 in the Twenty20 on September 30.
Needing only 94 to join cricket's elite at the World Cup, Afghanistan's chase began poorly when they lost the opener Mohammad Shahzad for 1 in the second over. They scored slowly too, but their bowlers had given them the luxury of being able to do so while seeing off the new ball. By the time the umpires took the players off for lunch, Nawroz Mangal and Asghar Stanikzai had taken the team to 24 for 1 in nine overs.

Mangal found the long-off boundary in the first over after the resumption, which went for nine runs to give Afghanistan impetus. However, they were jolted severely in the 11th, Shem Ngoche bowling Stanikzai with the first ball and trapping Mangal lbw with the last to reduce Afghanistan to 34 for 3.
Any worries of a collapse, however, were allayed by Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shaidi, who shared a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket to kill the contest. Nabi was aggressive, scoring at nearly a run a ball and accelerated towards the finish with two huge sixes. He sealed the World Cup berth with a smash to the midwicket boundary.
They will join Pool A at the World Cup along with Australia, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and another qualifier. Afghanistan's progress means that Netherlands, UAE, Scotland, Kenya, Namibia, Canada, Uganda, Hong Kong, Nepal and Papua New Guinea will have to compete for the last two Associate berths.

Nepal receives grant from ICC for World Cup Qualifier preparations

International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced to provide a high performance grant to Nepal to make preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

As per the 2013 ICC Development Funding Policy, Nepal will receive $175,000 (Nrs15750000). ICC will distribute the amount to its affiliate and associate member nations within rank nine to 12, while the top eight ranked affiliate and associate member nations will get $ 350,000.
"We should invest this grant in the preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers," said Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) President Tanka Aangbuhang. The qualifiers is scheduled to be held in New Zealand in January 2014.
Nepal became the 11th ranked affiliate and associate nation after winning the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 held in Bermuda last month. Winning the tournament, Nepal had secured promotion to Division 2.

ICC has been providing $300,000 every year to Nepal in grant. Besides, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) provides $60,000 every year for office expenditure. ACC also provides additional financial support if it saves significant amount from Asia Cup.
CAN President Aangbuhang said the high performance grant has given CAN a huge relief. "With this grant, we can at least plan a training program for our national side," said Aangbuhang. "Meanwhile, we are expecting support from the government and are preparing a detailed program for the World Cup Qualifiers," he added.
According to Aangbuhang, CAN could use the grant also to send players for foreign training. "We are sending Binod Bhandari and Pradeep Airee to Sri Lanka to play club cricket there. Meanwhile, we are also planning some tours for the national squad to Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. We are also planning to call some foreign teams and experts here," said Aangbuhang.

Bhandari and Airee will play for Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club in the Sri Lankan U-23 Club Cricket League. Last year, pacer Amrit Bhattarai and Chandra Sawad had played the league.
Nepal could reach the World Cup if it finishes the World Cup Qualifiers on the top two positions. If Nepal finishes the qualifiers within top four, Nepal would get One-Day status.
Nepal is also competing in the World T20 Qualifiers to be held in the UAE in November this year. The top six teams among the participating 16 teams of the T20 Qualifiers would reach to the World T20.

ICC World Cricket League Division III: Nepal won the WCL Division III title

After poor start in ICC WCL division III, Nepal come back as a winner after beating Uganda in the Final of ICC WCL Division III by five wickets. Nepal once look like the poorest team of the Tournament after losing two matches but the Nepalese cricket team came as true winner in three league matches Beating Bermuda, Oman and Italy. Nepal reached the final after being placed ahead of USA and Bermuda on better run rate.
The final, in Hamilton, was a low-scoring one. Uganda chose to bat and were shaken straightaway, with Nepal's captain Paras Khadka removing opener Arthur Kyobe for one. They crawled along, and lost their top four cheaply, to be tottering at 39 for 4 by the end of the 22nd over. A series of cameos from the middle order helped get them past the 150-run mark, but they could never quite break the shackles until the last couple of overs, batting out the 50 for 151 for 8. Left-arm medium pacer Basanta Regmi finished with 2 for 24 from his ten, to end as the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
ICC WCL Div IIIChampion Nepal

Nepal's batsmen were shaky in reply, falling to 30 for 3 in the 11th. But a 77-run stand between opener Pradeep Airee and No. 5 Sharad Vesawkar got them back on track. They lost two more in a hurry when Airee was out to left-arm spinner Henry Ssenyondo for 60, but Vesawkar kept going in the company of Prithu Baskota - who captained Nepal at the Under-19 World Cup last year - to get them over the line. Vesawkar finished unbeaten on 50 and Nepal eventually won comfortably, with over 10 overs to spare.
Khadka said he was happy with the way his team kept fighting, despite losing their first two matches in the tournament. "We worked really hard for this. Having lost the first couple of games no one gave us an outright chance but we still believed in ourselves and our ability," he said. "Everything worked in favour of us and, as they say, fortune favours the brave. I feel glad, we have reached where we always wanted to, and now it is a matter of preparing ourselves for even better."
Nepal Vs Uganda
Expectedly, Uganda captain Davis Arinaitwe, who was named Player of the Series, was disappointed with the loss, but said the team had achieved their main goal: making it to the World Cup Qualifiers. "Ideally, I would have liked to finish the tournament on a high and pick up the final trophy of the whole tournament, and leave this beautiful island as WCL winners. But qualifying for the World Cup Qualifier was our primary objective. When we got here, we first put our sights on trying to qualify for that tournament. So, for us, that is an achievement that we can take back home."
The World Cup Qualifiers will be played in New Zealand in January 2014. Prior to that, there's the World Twenty20 Qualifier in November in Dubai, and both captains said their teams' focus would not shift to that tournament. "Before the World Cup Qualifier, we have the World Twenty20 Qualifier and that's an equally important tournament," Khadka said. "Preparation-wise, we have to have a strategic plan from now on because it is a big step - one more step and you are in the main global tournament. So we have to think from that perspective."
Nepal cricket team will arrive Nepal on Wednesday and Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will soon announce cash prize and will welcome the team and there will be winning rally.

ICC WCL Division III: Nepal Qualify for 2014 WC Qualifiers

As expected by lots of Nepalese cricket fans in Nepal who waited all night to morally support Nepal cricket Team that was playing in Bermuda to keep their hope alive to qualify for ICC World Cup qualifier 2014, Nepal cricket team did that with its own effort and with the help of luck. Nepal have leapfrogged USA to earn a place in the World Cup Qualifiers after a dramatic day at the World Cricket League Division 3 tournament in Bermuda. It was a plausible, but unlikely, scenario at the start of the day with Nepal needing to thrash Italy then hope that Bermuda overcame USA. In the end, that is exactly what happened.

Nepal raced to victory with a massive 211 deliveries to spare which gave their net run-rate the surge required to keep their hopes alive. Tight bowling had restricted Italy to 127 for 9 and then Nepal's openers - Subash Khakurel(47) and Pradeep Airee(42) - added 87 in 12 overs to speed them on their way before captain Paras Khadka provided the finishing touches with 22 off eight deliveries. While vice captain  Gyanendra thrashed four and six in two deliveries.
Still, however, Nepal needed a favor from Bermuda who, by now, had no chance of progressing. Ultimately, Bermuda cruised home with more than five overs to spare, but it will have been an agonizing few hours for Nepal. They impressively knocked off 221 led by their captain, Chris Douglas, who made 89 off 75 balls. He may now find himself being offered the freedom of Kathmandu.Nepal will now join Uganda, who had already qualified top of the group, at next year's World Cup Qualifiers to compete for a chance to play at the main event in Australia and New Zealand during early 2015.

ICC World Cricket League Div III: Cricket Team of Nepal off to Bermuda

After a day of uncertainty, the national cricket team finally flew for Bermuda, the venue for the ICC World Cricket League Division 3, as scheduled on Tuesday. The 19-member team, consisting of 15 players, Coach Pubudu Dassanayake, manager TB Shah, team analyst Raman Shiwakokti and physiotherapist, left for Delhi from where they leave for Bermuda via London.
With the team scheduled to leave on Tuesday, Nepal’s participation in Division 3 which runs through April 28- May 5 was mired in uncertainty after the British High Commission in Delhi had delayed the visa process. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) turned to the British Embassy for assistance in the eleventh hour and with their cooperation managed to obtain the visa for all the players except vice-captain Gyanendra Malla.

“The Embassy here cooperated with us and with their help we were able to send our team as planned,” CAN General Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel told The Post. The British Embassy in Kathmandu had consulted the High Commission in Delhi about the visa problem. Likewise, CAN sent its member Basata Satyal to Delhi on Tuesday morning to sort the matter, who later handed the players their passports with visa in Delhi.

Pyakurel informed that Malla too has travelled with the team as the high commission in Delhi has summoned him for an interview on Wednesday. “He will join the team once he obtains visa,” Pyakurel informed. In the meantime, Naresh Budhayer has travelled with team in place of Malla.

The top two teams in the Divison-3 will take part in the 10-team Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The two finalists of the qualifier will play the Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand. Nepal is scheduled to play the Friendly against Bermuda XI in April 25. The top two sides from the qualifying event will then advance to the 14-team ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, where they will compete against the 10 Full Members on a global stage in Australia and New Zealand. Nepal along with host Bermuda, Uganda, Italy, USA and Oman are playing League Matches from April 28 to May 5 in Bermuda. Here yours favorite sports portal from Nepal www.anantasports.com is bringing you the Team profile, Analysis and Squad for all the Cricket Lovers.

Team Nepal:

Team Nepal is the onlyTeam of the Tournament where all the players are of Pure Nepalese Origin. Nepal Looks strong and toughest opponent to all the Teams who are expecting to secure the Top two Positions. Nepal’s recent form in Cricket is amazing as Nepal won ACC Elite Trophy 2012 along with UAE, secured second position in recently held ACC T20 Cup 2013 after losing against Afghanistan and became Champion of Division IV 2012. On the Leadership of inspiring captain Paras Khadka and Coach Pubudu Nepal is able to beat any team. The major problem of Nepalese team is their consistency along with poor fast Bowling attack. Nepal’s strongest point is their spin attack and batting Line up where every batsman are able to score. Nepal has been new to Bermuda and hope they can perform better there. We will like to convey our best wishes to Team Nepal
Squad:Paras Khadka (captain), Pradeep Airee, Prithu Baskota, Binod Bhandari, Amrit Bhattarai, Shakti Prasad Gauchan, Subash Prasa Khakurel, Gyanendra Malla, Anil Kumar Mandal, Basant Regmi, Sanjam Regmi, Chandra Sawad, Sharad Vesawkar and Rahul Kumar Vishwakarma
Team USA:

Team USA had already played ICC World cup However, this team has been in decline since they played ICC world Cup. A team always known for its attacking batsman, US has made a surprising decision to leave out their Mr. Consistant Aditya Thagyarajan and a premier bowler Usman Shuja. Regional rival USA is arriving in Bermuda on the back of its successful campaign at the ICC Americas Division 1 2013, where it won all of its matches to finish the event undefeated. USA won promotion to WCL Division 3 after finishing second in WCL Division 4 in September 2012.
USA captain Steve Massiah says his team is focused on finishing in the top two for a number of reasons. "WCL Division 3 is something that many players in US cricket have had as an ambition to participate in for some time now. It is important to win promotion to ensure that the future of cricket in our country is strong and moving forward. I will do my very best to achieve the ultimate goal of progressing to the next stage of qualification." The 33-year-old, who was born in Guyana, believes that his side is well prepared for the event. "Our preparation for the tournament has been thorough and the team is looking forward to improving our professionalism on and off the ground."

Squad: Steve Massiah (captain), Danial Ahmed, Timroy Allen, Orlando Baker, Barrington Bartley, Akeem Dodson, Muhammad Asad Ghous, Elmore Hutchinson, Naseer Jamali, Rashard Marshall, Neil Mcgarrell, Sushil Nadkarni, Japen Patel and Steven Taylor

Team Italy:

Italy is the Combination of the different Nationals by the Origin as there is only one pure Italian player in the Team.Italy can be the toughest opponent of Nepal but it is single performer than the Team. Given the maverick nature of US, experts think Italy as favorites to qualify for next stage. A team of good fielders and all-rounders, Italy have a better head to head against USA. Squad: Alessandro Bonora (captain), Damian Graham Crowley, Gayashan De Silva Munasinghe, Luis Di Giglio, Dilan Fernando Arsakulasuriya, Fida Hussain, Dinidu Marage, Damian Muthunamagonnage Fernando, Andrew Northcote, Hayden Patrizi Dell'agnello, Vincenzo Pennazza, Peter Petricola, Michael Raso and Carl Sandri

Team Bermuda -
Bermuda is not what it used to be. The relentless decline since the hey days of 2007 could see a new low for them - a relegation to div 4. Noted player like Hemp, Jones & Leverock have all not fired in recent years. The strongest part of the team is that they are playing at home ground and are known to the condition there. Stephen Outerbridge, captain of the host team, says his team is firmly focused on a top two finish. "The team recognizes the importance of finishing in the top two of WCL Division 3 if they have aspiration of playing in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup," he said. The 29-year-old is looking forward to the opportunity to display the great game as well as his side's skills on home soil. "As recently appointed captain of Bermuda I think this is a great opportunity for my team to showcase its talents on home soil with the support of family, friends and supporters. I am grateful for the trust that has been bestowed in me. I hope to deliver success for my team and country at this tournament."

In 2012, Bermuda finished 13th at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in the UAE, and, more recently, it finished second in the ICC Americas Division 1 2013. The right-hander believes his team can continue building on these results. "I hope that everyone has learned from our previous disappointments, which should help us put together a string of positive team performances going forward."
Squad: Stephen Outerbridge (captain), Jason Anderson, Lionel Cann, Jekon Edness, Treadwell Gibbons, David Hemp, Malachi Jones, Greg Maybury, Tre Manders, Delray Rawlins, Jacobi Robinson, Curt Stovell, Rodney Trott and Janeiro Tucker
Team Uganda -
A very new team for Nepal and they have finished second to Kenya in recently held ICC T20 World cup Regional Qualifier from Africa. A consistant performer in Africa region, Uganda, inspite of not being as good as few yrs back, can still pose few problems to major teams. Not worthy of a king but can be a king maker or even breaker. So Every team should be cautious against Africanteam Uganda.
Squad: Davis Arinaitwe (captain), Benjamin Musoke, Roger Mukasa, Laurence Sematimba, Frank Nsubuga, Brian Masaba, Arthur Kyobe, Charles Waiswa, Michael Ndiko, Deusdedit Muhumuza, Henry Senyondo, Arthur Ziraba, Jonathan Sebanja and Richard Okia

Team Oman -
Arguably the least likely team to clinch the qualification. Still getting fruits from the good tress planted in mid 2000s. Zeeshan Siddique, the top-order batsman cum leg spinner is a definite watch out. Oman, which is returning to WCL Division 3 after finishing third in the event in 2011, has also arrived in Bermuda and captain Vaibhav Wategaonkar is looking forward to the event. He said: "This tournament means a lot to me, as I'm captaining the national side for the first time, and also it means a lot for the whole team.
"It's a big and very important opportunity for us. If we qualify for the WCL Qualifier 2014, then we will get the chance to play against WCL Championship teams, and playing against them is an enriching experience and also it helps us to show our talent on a bigger cricketing platform," Wategaonkar continued. The left-hander says his side has the skill to do well at WCL Division 3. "We are a good side, a very talented side."
Squad: Vaibhav WATEGAONKAR (c), Sultan AHMED, Syed Amir ALI, Munis ANSARI, Ghazanfar IQBAL, Syed Aamir KALEEM, Ajay LALCHETA, Sufyan MAHMOOD, Hemal MEHTA, Nileshkumar PARMAR, Abishek RAMESH, Rajesh RANPURA, Zeeshan SIDDIQUI, Jatinder SINGH
