Asia's biggest football tournament will cick off in Doha Qatar 2011 today!!!

The 15^th AFC asian cup final will be held on Qatar from 7^th to 29^th January 2011 and this is the second time Qatar is hosting the tournament as it hosted the tournament in 1988. Qatar along with India and iran were willing to host the tournament  but later India withdrew and iran failed to submit proper documentation in time. Qatar who is also hosting the FIFA  world cup 2022 was announced as a host  of 15th AFC cup in 29^th July 2007 AFC ASIAN CUP in Jakarta.

  President Mohamed Bin Hammam said he was confident the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ finals will be the best ever in the tournament’s history.

Speaking to members of the AFC Executive Committee here on Wednesday, Bin Hammam said the January 7-29 tournament will set new standards of excellence.

“The AFC Asian Cup is kicking off soon and I hope we call will be able to witness it,” said Bin Hammam, a Qatari.



The 2011 tournament features 16 of the top teams in Asia divided into four groups of four with the top two in each group advancing to the quarter-finals.

The Qatar Local Organising Committee has gone to great lengths to ensure a smooth tournament and create a unique festival atmosphere.

They have already unveiled a five-strong family of Jerboas (desert rodents) as mascots while the 16 buses ferrying the teams will carry slogans written by fans.

 The tournament will officially start after the host nation Qatar and Uzbekistan at Khalifa International stadium  having capacity of fifty thousand spectators on 19:15 local time. Grouping of participating team is as follows.

Ganesh Thapa, a Football legendry from Nepal Elected as a Regional VIce president of AFC

 Ganesh Thapa a football  legendry of Nepal and also a president of ANFA (All Nepal football association) has been elected as a vice president of AFC(Asian football Confederation)). On the election held on 6th of January 2011during during the AFC Congress 2011 in Doha, Qatar. Mr Ganesh Thapa defeated the only opponent of Iran´s Ali Saeed Loo by 25-20 in the South & Central Asian Zone election. Malaysia’s HRH Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and Zhang Jilong, of China, were elected as vice-president unopposed. Abdullah was unopposed in the ASEAN vote while Zhang saw all his opponents withdraw on the day in the East Asian Zone while Yousuf Yaqoob Al Serkal (United Arab Emirates) was only candidate from west zone.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) also elected Mohamed Bin Hammam the only candidate as the president of AFC. , the 61 year-old Qatari will be given a third and final four-year term as head of the Asian football governing body. Similarly Jordan's Prince Ali bin Al Hussein stunned powerful South Korean Chung Mong-Joon by unseating him as a FIFA vice-president.

Manilal Fernando, of Sri Lanka, and Thailand’s Worawi Makudi have won seats on the FIFA Executive Committee as AFC representatives after voting on Thursday at the 24th AFC Congress.There were two seats up for elections with four candidates. Also in the frame were Japan’s Kohzo Tashima and China’s Zhang Jilong.

Fernando picked up 23 of the 45 eligible votes while Worawi gained 24 votes to retain his seat on FIFA's decision-making body. Victory was by a simple majority.

Ganesh thapa, previous national player who had already played for the national team of Nepal and have given Nepalese football lots of pleasure in international arena and he also played his professional football from Bangladeshi club. The win for the thapa was only possible after the the candidate from India mr praful patel and other south asian contender has  withdrawn their candidacy in support of Ganesh thapa.

Commonwealth Games is an international, multi-sport event which is held every four years and features competitions involving thousands of elite athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

All but two of these countries were formerly part of the British Empire. The event was first held in 1930 under the title of the British Empire Games in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. There are currently 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations, and 71 teams participate in the Games. The four Home Nations of the United Kingdom  England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – send separate teams to the Commonwealth Games, and individual teams are also sent from the British Crown dependencies of Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man (unlike at the Olympic Games, where the combined "Great Britain" team represents all four home nations and the Crown dependencies).

 The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be the nineteenth Commonwealth Games, and the ninth to be held under that name. The Games are scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October 2010. The games will be the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in Delhi and India, which has previously hosted the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main stadium, in Delhi. The two principal bids for the 2010 Commonwealth Games were from Delhi, India and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. A ballot of members was held in November 2003 at the Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Delhi bid won by a margin of 46 votes to 22, confirming India's first successful bid for the Games. The bid was Canada's attempt to hold the games for the fifth time bid motto was New Frontiers and Friendships. The official song of the 2010 Commonwealth Games Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto was composed and performed by the Indian musician A. R. Rahman.The song's title is based on the slogan of the games, "Come out and play". The song is penned by Mehboob in Hindi with a sprinkling of English words. It was released on 28 August 2010.

The Opening ceremony at the Commonwealth Games is one among the biggest extravaganzas of the world.

It will take place in one of the largest stadiums of Delhi, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which bears a capacity of more than 70,000 spectators. Prince Charles from Britain is supposed to make his presence at the launching ceremony of the Games.

The Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, 2010, has a variety of events lined up. Inauguration ceremony will be followed by the welcome ceremony where athletes of all the participating nations will be welcomed and green flags will be shown to the games.
