Chelsea FC won Maiden Champions League Title

English Giant Chelsea have for the first time won the Champions League, European soccer's premier club competition, as they disappointed German  Bayern Munich in the penalty shootout 4-3 after tying 1-1 in the 120 minutes of real play.

Didier Drogba may have played his last game for Chelsea and the 34-year-old from Ivory Coast put his stamp on the victory Saturday.
Playing at home in Munich, Bayern dominated most part of play and looked like wrapping it up when they took a 1-0 lead with less than five minutes to go in normal time. Drogba turned it around, nodding home from an acute angle a corner kick by Mata to make it 1-1.

Then there was another twist in the drama. Fifteen minutes into the extra time, Drogba brought down Bayern's Franck Ribery in the box. As the Frenchman limped off the field, Arjen Robben's penalty kick was stopped by Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

After a few skirmishes in the remaining period of overtime, it was time for shootout.

Bayern again forged ahead 3-1, but Chelsea again restored parity 3-3. The teams were ready with their final kicks. Bastian Schweinsteiger muffed, finding the post and in walked Drogba. Without any hint of nerves he coolly beat Manuel Neuer, giving Chelsea the title they failed to win in a similar shootout to Manchester United in 2008 in Moscow.

Bayern Players looks Sad after Unexpected Defeat

"This was not about who won in the penalties," Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes told reporters after the game.

"This was about us not using our chances to win the game. It is purely our fault that we did not use our many chances. My team played an outstanding game against an opponent who played as we expected them to do," Heynckes, who coached Real Madrid to the title in 1998, was quoted as saying by Deutsche Welle

Frank lampard with Cup

For Bayern the defeat was particularly bitter as they not only squandered the rare chance to win a Champions League final on their home ground, but also because this was their last opportunity to make amends for what by their high standards had been a disappointing season. Not only have they failed to win the Bundesliga, but they also badly lost the German Cup final to Dortmund.

Chelsea's stand-in captain Frank Lampard hailed Drogba as the hero.

"We didn't play fantastic but the main man Didier dug us out of trouble there," said Lampard, who captained the side in the absence of the suspended John Terry.

"He's a hero. Without him we're not here. He scores the goals in the big games."

Drogba was no doubt the Man of the Match.

Man of the Match Drogba

Drogba ran to the side and threw himself onto the ground. Then, he held Cech in a long embrace, thanking the keeper for saving Chelsea's night.

"When we have this guy in goal you have to believe," said Drogba.

"It was written, I think, along time ago. I want to dedicate this cup to all the managers we've had before, all the players I've played with before...They (Chelsea players) never give up until the end. This team is amazing."

Drogba's contract expires this summer, but Lampard said he would love him to stay.

The result:

Bayern Munich 1 (Mueller 83), Chelsea 1 (Drogba 88)

After extra time, Chelsea won 4-3 on penalties.

Australian cricketer 'sexually assaulted American woman and severely beat her fiancee

Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach has been arrested on molestation and assault charges, a senior Delhi Police official said today.

The 27-year-old is accused of molesting American Zoe Khan and physically attacking her fiancee Sahil Peerzada in a city hotel during a party after Pomersbach's Bangalore team had beaten Delhi in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Thursday.

 Luke Pomersbach

Police commissioner KC Dwived said: 'The lady complained he molested her and after he left the room, he came back again and tried to force his entry into the room.'

'I am shocked to be in this position. I can't believe this is happening and I'm really disappointed when people make things up,' Pomersbach was quoted as saying by The Weekend Australian newspaper.

The Australian cricketer was subsequently granted an interim bail by a city court.

Khan and her fiancee Peerzada are undergoing treatment in a city hospital.

Attended by celebrities from the world of cricket and show business, IPL post-match parties have drawn criticism but league chairman Rajeev Shukla said the body no longer has anything to do with the events.

Sahil Peerzada

Mr Shukla said: 'IPL is not hosting any party. We have done away with this concept of hosting parties.

'Let the law take its course and police decide, it's about the behaviour of an individual player.'

Pomersbach, who played his only Twenty20 International against New Zealand in 2007, has not been part of the Bangalore playing XI this season.

The incident follows Kolkata franchisee owner and Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's altercation on Wednesday in Mumbai with the Wankhede Stadium officials, who have banned him from entering the ground for next five years.

Earlier on Tuesday, five uncapped Indian cricketers were provisionally suspended following allegations of corruption in the lucrative Twenty20 League

If you had followed the World cup 2012 you may have heard about the Octopus named the Paul which predict 2010 World Cup results of matches. A psychic pig is set to take over Paul the Octopus at the European championships in Ukraine and Poland. Kiev's city government said on Friday it would wheel out the porky tipster to give daily forecasts once the tournament kicks off next month.

"A unique oracle hog, a real Ukrainian pig and a psychic which knows the mysteries of football," a statement said. "Every day at 16.00 it will predict the result of the upcoming match." Paul, who has since passed away, shot to fame at the 2010 World Cup after his feeding behaviour was used to correctly predict the winner of each of the Germany's seven matches.

He also tipped World Cup winners Spain to beat the Netherlands in the final in South Africa from his tank at an aquarium in Oberhausen. Kiev officials said they wanted bring similar excitement to Ukrainians by bringing the telepathic pig to the city's fan zone before matches. 'Psychic' creatures have become the rage since Paul blazed his tentacled trail.

A rare two-headed tortoise called Magdalena embarked on a new career as a tipster at last year's ice hockey world championships in Slovakia. Germany discovered a cross-eyed opossum called Heidi, who made an appearance on American television earlier this year to predict the Oscar winners. She died last September. The hog will be eager to sniff out the correct result himself to avoid the chop as pork is a staple of the local cuisine.
