The All Nepal Football
Association (ANFA) today trimmed the AFC Challenge Cup squad to 28 members from
the previous 36 members that were undergoing closed camp training for
the March 8-18 tournament here in kathmandu.
Among the players to be axed were forwards Bishal Rai ‘A’ and ‘B’ of Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC), midfielder Nirajan Malla of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club, Rupesh KC of Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC), Anil Ojha of Mega Three Star Club (TSC), Ramesh Katuwal of Nepal Police Club (NPC), goalkeeper Bishal Shrestha of Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) and Raju Yogi of New Road Team (NRT).
Eight players from MMC, six from NPC, five from TAC, three each from Three Star and Himalayan Sherpa and one each from NRT and APF including Rohit Chand, who plies his trade in the i-league club HAL, retained their places. The final squad will be announced some time later. Nepal have been drawn in Group ‘A’ with Maldives, Palestine and Turkmenistan, while Group ‘B’ comprises of defending champions DPR Korea, India, Philippines and Tajikistan.
