The Sixth National Games
formally concluded on Sunday with the handover of the National Games´ flag to
the Eastern Region, where the next edition will be hosted.
Central Region once again dominated the National Games, clinching 131 gold, 84 silver and 85 bronze medals to become the team champion for a record sixth time.

The winning team was way ahead of Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Armed Police Force (APF), who were competing for the second position during the biggest national event that was held in Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar of Far Western Region from February 26 to March 4.
NPC edged past APF to secure the second position with 54 golds, 45 silvers and 34 bronzes. APF had to settle for the third position with 46 golds, 41 silvers and 47 bronzes.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, who is also the patron of National Sports Council, handed the flag of the National Games to the Eastern Region Sports Development Committee President Kiran Rai during the closing ceremony in Mahendranagar.
Bhattarai praised the people of the Far Western Region for successfully hosting the grand event on their soil.
“The successful completion of the Sixth National Games has played an important role in fostering unity among us,” said PM Bhattarai. “The political parties must learn a lesson from the team spirit that ensured successful completion of the National Games,” added Bhattarai.
He also said that the government would invest as much as it can to promote sports in the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister for Youth and Sports Kamala Roka said that the foundation of sports must be laid in schools and colleges in order to develop sports from grass-roots level. Minister Roka also announced to conduct First National School Games in June.
Meanwhile, NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama thanked the Far Western Region for successfully hosting the National Games.
The ten-day event ended with a cultural show that reflected the culture and customs of the Far Western Region.
